my bike is lowered in this picture....  I have an adjustable Penske shock and was running XB Scg forks. I have since raised the bike  For lowering your bike... you could find an M2L "M2 Low" shock and slide your forks up into the triple tree. Another way is to talk to race tech or traxxion about shortening your forks but thats $$$. Also, a company called Wes-Tek used to make a front rear shock mount that lowers the rear... hard to find though. (Message edited by purpony on May 17, 2017) | ||

Wow, that is one gorgeous X1, I also have a penske shock but won't that just change the smoothness/stiffness of the ride? I heard about that wes tek part but it is indeed hard to find. Also, why did you wnd up raising it? | ||

You can adjust the length of the penske without effecting the performance. The rear mount is a threaded eyelet. Just remember you can only unscrew it so far. I want to say penske told me you need to leave at least 5 threads screwed in. I loved the look and feel of mine being lowered but I did bottom out on a couple low curbs had to manually lift the rear of my bike to get it on my trailer. I ended up swapping my Scg forks for 1125CR forks which are longer. Larger beefer internals. This raised the bike and even with my penske fully adjusted the back was to low so I made a new front shock mount. I havnt ridden it yet.. but we will see. If I don't like it I'll be installing a racetech kit in the front to lower the forks just a little bit. Don't have any decent pics of it now... all of them I do have it's on a rear stand. This is the only one I can find where both tires are on the ground.  | ||

All that is needed is an M2Low shock and sidestand plus raising the front forks to match the drop gained. OEM parts. Will drop just under an inch but worth it to me. Mine does not bottom out. Another way to do it is to change the front mount for the rear shock. If you currently have a 16.5" shock, then all you do is install a 14.7" front mount. This will lower your bike without any other mods. | ||

I am 5'4 and had to tippy toe my 02 x1 so I lowered it, I fabricated a rear shock extention out of some heavy steal i had laying around the shop,It had to be longer to lower the bike. It lowered the back of the bike about 3 or 4 inches. I love it and plan to lower the front after a figure out how to raise the handle bar mount up to bring the fork tubes up threw the mounts | ||

I took the route of changing the shock because it was easier to find then to get / make and trust a fab'ed mount. More expensive, but I have my peace of mind as it is essentially an OEM solution... | ||

You were able to fab a shock mount, so something like this ought to be easy peasy. Sometimes I wish I weren't so far removed from my shop days... | ||

He already has a penske though..id try adjusting the rear eyelet on the penske and slide your forks up just a little and see if that gets you where you need to be. If not go on the hunt for a wes-tek front mount. Mnscrounger- As for my spoked wheels with ZTL front brake, the wheels are just off the shelf Alpina Buell XB wheels. Made in Italy and were a direct replacement for XB's. However they were discontinued back in 2007 ( i believe). I also have XB/1125 forks. | ||

When I bought my Penske 14.7" shock from Al at ABS, I also ordered an 14.7" front shock mount. I'm not sure how the shipping was done for the shock, but I received an 16.5" shock with an 14.7" front mount. Brinnitz in Kenosha WI received an 14.7" shock BUT he ordered an 16.5" shock. His did not fit and mine was lowered. Neither of us got what we ordered. Needless to say, my shock barely fit (too long) and his would not fit. Good thing I kept my 16.5" front mount.  | ||

i lowered my x1 by 2", made an adjustable front shock mount and dropped the forks by about 3/4" due to a disability. still handles great but pegs grind on floor!! There are pictures on here but i cant find them. | ||

That's why I made and installed my rearsets. With my bike being lowered it brought my pegs up and back so they didn't drag. (Message edited by Purpony on May 28, 2017) | ||
