I'm getting an out of gas symptom, at idle or low speed it feels like the fuel is cutting off. I got, ECMspy and the cable, fuel pump tests ok but when I ran the front coil test, I have no idea what that is, I get a nice bit of stinky smoke off the right side of the bike.
Has anyone experienced this before?

Sounds like you may just need to clean the throttle body and do a proper TPS.

Low throttle and idle is affected most by TPS weirdness.
Gunk sometimes builds up in the intake where the butterfly comes close to the tube. This gunk will interfere with a proper TPS reset.

The TPS reset is just defining to the computer "This is 0%, This is 100%" and then you adjust the idle back up to idle.

I was curious if TPS may be part of the problem, I've owned the bike for 3 years and haven't adjusted it. I'll see if I can dig up a youtube video on how it's done exactly, from what I've read it seems fairly straight forward.

TPS is showing 6^, it should be 5.1-5.5 is that correct? It's a 2000 X1 with race ecm / kit

Nothing wrong with a TPS reset. Procedure is simple: Connect ECMspy, and confirm you get readings. Just because, slowly run the throttle wide open and check for a nice, smooth change in the throttle reading. That done, back out the idle adjustment until the reading is zero, then 2 more turns. Go to the TPS reset tab, push it, done. Reset the idle adjustment to the 5-5.5 area. Ride until engine is warm, then reset idle, if necessary, to 1000-1050 RPM.

Given the bikes age, and if you haven't done it yet, such idle issues may be caused by leaking intake manifold gaskets. Might do to replace them as a matter of routine maintenance.

Hope this helps, Dave

Thanks Dave, great information. I'll check those manifold gaskets tonight when I get home.

... and don't forget to clean anything found in the butterfly area before the TPS rest.

What can I spray on there to clean it up that's safe to use?
