Can any of my Buell brothers and sisters help. My 09 buell uly is cutting out on me going down the road. It seems to cough and fall on its face, for 2 or 3 seconds and then come right back. I did notice the gages all drop off and the check engine light comes on when it coughs. Also sometimes it don't want to stay idling mostly after it warms up. Anyone else have this problem? |

If the check engine light is coming on. First thing I would do is check for trouble codes. Also, it would not hurt to check the battery connections, too. |

09 XT owner here and I second what Teeps suggests. If I had to guess I'd say it's a problem with the ECM. I replaced mine about 2,000 miles ago and the symptoms were identical to what you describe. Still, rather than guess, check the codes. |

I have heard that the seat pushes down on the ECM. Do they make a wiring extender/harness to relegate the ECM? Would you know the best place to buy a new ECM? |

I have an 09 and I used a rubber spacer on top of the post next to the ECM. You can use anything to keep the seat from pushing down on the ECM. You'll see a mark on the ECM if contact occurred. |

Also, what do I need to reed my codes? Where can I get the plug/wire and program? |

If you do see contact from the seat, the damage may already be done and a new ECM would be the best way to go. |

I do see where the seat is pushing on it. If I get a new one, I don't want to leave it in that same spot. that's a lot of wires to splice together and I don't want to cut up a wiring harness. What to do? |

Johnyz2501974 Posted on Monday, May 15, 2017 - Also, what do I need to reed my codes? Where can I get the plug/wire and program? Good question, not sure for an '09 Buell. There are data cables on ebay but they say only good up to 2008 models. |

All fuel injected Buells use the same interface cable, the cable I bought years ago works perfect on everything from my 99 X1 to 2014 EBR. This one looks nicer and cheaper than the one I bought years ago - http://shop.ecmcables.com/Buell-ECM-to-USB-basic-b lack-tuning-cable Or Bluetooth wireless version - http://shop.ecmcables.com/ECMDroid.com-Bluetooth-E CM-Wireless-Tuning-Dongle-Lite-for-Buell As for software, on Windows you can get ECMspy (free version works on 99-07 bikes, but the paid version works on 99-2010), or TunerPro (free, but works on all 99-2010 but is a real pain in the ass to setup and use) If you have an Android device, you can use the Bluetooth dongle and get ECMDroid from the Play Store. It is finicky and doesn't work as good or reliably as a USB cable on Windows, but it tends to work in a pinch. If all you want to do is check your codes, you don't need any of the above, you can follow these instructions to get the bike to spit out a code right on the dashboard: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=2360318#POST2360318 |

Also, relocating the ecm is as easy as unmounting it from the base and sliding it into an open area under the seat. Many of us have done it. |

I didn't relocate mine but i built up the plastic post next to it. I'm guessing Buell thought that was high enough to avoid contact but I saw rub marks. I used some thick pieces of 3m tape and raised it about 1/4 inch. That will crush down a little but after bouncing on the seat I saw no contact. |
