Hello, I'm new to this forum and this is a new kind of bike that I'm considering purchasing. I currently have a 11' streetglide that I currently ride and love, but living in rural Oklahoma I'm surrounded by rural roads which are a bit ruff and a mix of asphalt and dirt, which I choose not to explore on my Harley. I recently came across a 2006 buell ulysses xb12x with only 1200 miles on it, and would certainly allow me to do a lot more off and on the highway action. Was looking for some feedback on the positives and negatives on this year, the bike has set a lot, should I look at anything special beside seals leaking, and what is the bike worth, I haven't seen hardly any in my area forsale, and don't know if the seller is way out of line at $3000, thanks for any and all opinions and help.

If it has truly done just 1200 miles, and by the looks of the good state of the original exhaust, it might just have - then 3000 dollars is an absolute steal. Especially since it comes with hard luggage. Only things I've noticed that seem odd are the lack of decals on the airbox cover and the (lower) flyscreen (does he still have the original covers if these are replacements?), and the new EBR looking rotor. If it's done just 1200 miles, why the new rotor? Front fender (lower) and the air intakes look a little rough, after market glass fibre or something (or is that just water)? Though none of that has to be an issue. Little apparent wear on the engine casings from road grime and lack of rust on the exhaust indicate the mileage could be accurate. You'll love it. I paid 4600 euro for mine here in the Netherlands, had 8000 miles on it. /edit: also seems to have Michelin Pilot Road tires if I'm not mistaken. Huge plus. I haven't looked at the bike in person yet, just talked to the owner on the phone. I don't know exactly what is on the intake and fender, it looks like a coating to me since nothing else looks wet. He has stated the mileage is accurate and has a clean title, but I'm going to get the vin, and try and find some kind of car fax, to see if I can verify the mileage to be accurate as well as the previous accidents. Thanks for pointing out the rotor and decals I hadn't really seen or thought of that, nor did I know The rotor wasn't factory. The mileage is what really attracted me to the bike, but it also makes me think, is this to good to be true. |

Well, like I said, the exhaust looks mint and those original exhausts are incredibly rust prone. So it could definitely be true (if the rest of the bike seems in equally good condition, which would make it more likely that the exhaust was not exchanged for a new one). Still, a true 1200 mile bike should be immediately identifiable as such. There should be no corrosion on stuff like the front engine mount and front forks and very little road/black grime anywhere else (though you could blast that away with a pressure washer). As for the rotor, the original ones did sometimes have the tendency to warp, which would explain the early replacement with this rotor. Pretty badass rotor though, so that's definitely not a knock against the bike. I would inform as to why there were obviously so many investments made in the bike while it does not have the miles to show for it. If the story is good and the all the bike's parts seem in - very - good condition, it could be a great deal. (Message edited by falloutnl on April 22, 2017) |

I wouldn't concern myself with the odometer. It looks like a clean solid bike with a lot of updates already on it. They're great motorcycles and $3k is a steal. |

The muffler, in the photo, is not a Ulysses muffler. This is what a Ulysses muffler looks like.
The muffler that is on the bike will work, but the side stand will make contact with the shiny tip... don't ask me how I know. (Message edited by teeps on April 22, 2017) |

I can speak to the plastics and decals- they look exactly like my carbon fiber kit- I have on my 08 Uly. I would bet that is what it had- ask where the original plastics are. Next- curious thought- the rims are clean- especially the rear. I ride 100% paved and mine get dirty quick- possibly indication of good care. My greatest concern might be fuel pump failure- as my bike set for quite a few years prior to me purchasing it. I rode for 300 miles and the gelling in the FP caused premature failure- that said it is a fantastic looking bike and you will love it- I ride in Texas and you can source the parts to rebuild a FP like I did. After I rebuilt my pump- I found a stick new one and bought that one - now I have a spare. Some thoughts from a XB rookie- Working on a chain conversion now for mine. |

Teeps is right of course, though it is a stock pipe, just not off of a Uly. It's a Lightning or Firebolt exhaust. That's another question for when you go and inspect. |

And whilst your asking questions........wrong footpegs, front are from a Lightning and the rears should be silver. Good luck. |

It has axle sliders and engine case sliders added, plus "BarkBuster" type handguards, good additions for getting off pavement, as it save from damage if dropped (it can happen, when off roading). The disc may have been replaced because of pulsing, caused by stock pads. I'll bet a lot of good discs were replaced. It looks like a later seat, the '06 had a taller seat. He might have the stock seat, and other parts. The textured surfaces look like "rhino liner", not sure why, but I've seen it used on other bikes. Looks like a good deal. People are selling Buells cheap, because they are a defunct brand. But, WE know they are great bikes! |

I own an 06' and if that bike really has only 3k miles then I'd snatch that puppy up myself if it was near Omaha. |

This bike is just not right; most has been stated in previous posts. For a bike with 1200 miles, there are too many things that are not original Ulysses parts... WHY? |

I have to agree with you, like I stated earlier I'm going to try and get a something along the lines of a car fax, but I don't know exactly how much information I'll be able to gather since it has a clean title. I'm glad everyone has told me which parts are incorrect, so I can question the owner on just exactly why each part has been changed. |

The tires are not factory original. Were they replaced just because of age? They surely would not have worn out in 1200 miles. |

I'd go one better . . . don't TELL the owner . . . ask "has anything been changed from the original" and see what he knows and doesn't know. This is either: a) a great deal b) a very poor deal Find out which. |

Looks like he had the modification bug and then stopped riding it for whatever reason. Plastics, maybe a race kit, pegs, turn signals, air scoop, grips, bark busters, seat, windscreen, sliders, rotor and caliper, Michelin Pilot Road tires, he did a lot of stuff. The Rhino liner stuff sure is ugly, I'd ask how that can be removed. He took a rat tail file and made a hole above the front r/h turn signal and did something weird to the dash, clutch and throttle cables routed incorrectly. I dunno, lot of nice touches. |

"The tires are not factory original. Were they replaced just because of age? They surely would not have worn out in 1200 miles." Has to be age. Not out of the question for a bike that's now 11 years old. |

Looks to me like it has been pieced together. Top box is not original that looks like a used Pirelli Angel front tire and possibly a Pilot Road on the rear, yeah the muffler is not right. Right side scoop looks like part of comfort kit but pipe cover missing, wrong bark busters, turn signals, lots of aftermarket goobers, even holes in the side of the headlight housing. If I were to guess from photos only I would speculate it is pieced together from salvage parts and ended up with low mileage speedo. |

I just bought a 2007 xb12ss, from the original owner, it has 617 original miles on it, even has the original tires, the front exhaust flange is still silver, no discoloration at all. It was listed for sale in cycle trader for weeks , the pictures really sucked. I finally took a shot and contacted the owner, he told me the only place he had to store it was, in his wood shop! For whatever reason, he never bothered to clean it before he put it up for sale. I bought it and washed it off, there was a new 2007 SS under all that wood dust ! Check it over carefully in good light, especially pay attention to what the guys mentioned above, make a list, take it with you and follow it carefully. The owner should have paper work, look up any recalls to see when and where they were done, then verify that they were done, you can also look at the mileage listed on the work sheets . Don't be bashful, he's not doing you a favor, he's selling something. Good luck. (Message edited by njloco on April 24, 2017) |

I would be very suspicious of the mileage being that low. That bike has an awful lot of replaced parts and personal touches to have such low mileage but it is possible. |

I have PR3's on my S2; PR4's on the 1125 and S1W. Love 'em. I'd have to look at the Uly, actually...it has PR's, but they're the wheels that were on the '07 parts bike I bought so I don't recall if they're 3 or 4. I still miss my D616's. |
