for those of you not on facebook (and I dont blame you !!) here is a new pulley design im working on for my X1. Since I have laced XB wheels and my Tuber / XB wheel conversion pulley doesnt match my wheels any longer i wanted to come up with something one off and matching. So far this is what i come up with. The prototype on the wheel has been slightly changed already in my CAD design so ill be making a new prototype to test out the look.

Was looking at some pictures of your bike lately and wondering when you were going to make a matching pulley! Good to see and know your working on it! Also a question ,did the wheels come with the black hubs ,or did you anodize them? |

Absolutely brilliant!! You've really built tat bike a few times over now.. just a thought, but you should have built 3 or 4 different bikes instead of the same bike Over and over... each version was truly amazing!! |

It's going to look great! I'm curious if your final design will have a "bevel" on both sides (not sure if that's the right word)? It seems like the belt could slip off the side, but I'm speaking with zero experience on this kind of thing. |

the tubers ran a flange on both sides since it has axle adjusters... the XB as you have shown only run a flange on one side. They have a fixed axle and therefore the belt should always run true. I have been running my custom rear pulley with only one flange on my tuber for the past 5+ years with no issues... NEVER had a belt wonder off....

That 3d printed prototype is really cool. Stack 5 or 6 of them up on top of each other, ride gently, and it feels like it would even be a functional part! Do they make glass reinforced 3d printing material? If you printed in a continuous line it could work. |

ive printed the able 6 spoke pulleys in a complete pulley before for mockup. I have a couple Mark Forged printers... they print in Nylon and continuous carbon fiber, fiberglass or kevlar strands. Pretty damn strong stuff. Also have Glass filled nylon SLS, but for quick, down and dirty mockup the FDM fine. Printing the newer tilted spoke design right now |

Sounds like he is questioning the strength if the design. As if it breaks it could be bad. I have seen thinner so no thought from me. Only would be concerned if you put alot more power down like using a turbo. |

I figured he was thinking I'm using the plastic prototype as the real part. I'm running FEA tests on it and will alter the design. Or material choice before making it. If I need to step up to 2024 or 7075 that's an option |

The sprocket that broke in your pics, Brankin, is a cut stock pulley, which is cast. The billet piece Marc (Purpony) is making is incredibly stronger because of the material in comparison. |

I'm curios how you machine these. I have a 3 axis CNC mill in my garage and it looks like this could be cut from the side with a 1/4 in or 5/16 end mill. Do you plate the wear surface with anything or have it anodized? |

I wasn't suggesting a glass reinforced plastic would make this an OK long term rear pully. I was asking in general terms for less demanding applications. |

I like both, I actually think the first one suits better as it looks more "spokey" which goes with the wheels. The second looks more like BBS wheel, to me, which I happen to like as well. |

also just finished designing a set of crossroads style bars for my bike that will house my motogadget miniscope..... has hidden passages for all the wiring so no wiring shown.
may like it, may not... but we will see! Will be fairly easy to swap back and forth either way. (Message edited by purpony on February 24, 2017) |
