What grit and type of abrasive, is recommended for honing the 1125R cylinder? |

I'm not sure of the grits, but they are diamond based and not all automotive machine shops are capable of either boring or honing this Nicosil alloy. Honing must be performed on a Sunnen type honing machine and certainly never in a home shop environment. |

( Never in a home shop) Thanks for raining on my parade! I was hoping to just buy the hone and do it myself. Why is the 1125R cylinder so special? There is a video from Rocky Mountain ATV that states that you can hone a Nicosil (or is it Nikasil) cylinders. https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/rm-rider-exchan ge/hone-motorcycle-atv-engine-cylinder-flex-hone/ (Message edited by willmrx on January 13, 2017) (Message edited by willmrx on January 13, 2017) |

Millennium Technologies might be able to help you with this. http://www.millennium-tech.net/serviceInfo.php?id= 7 |

Are you deglazing the cylinders or over sizing? |

Deglazing for new rings. You can still see the original hone mark after 50,000 miles. |

You can hone it but it just removes any foreign material that may be on the Nikasil. Nikasil has been aroung forever in dirtbikes and the Japanese streetbikes etc. |

Thanks. I found in the service manual that you can hone the cylinders with a 240 grit hone. But it does not say what type of abrasive to use. |

Only a ball hone or bar hone should be used to deglaze the cylinders. |

Here's what I found. Flex Hones, makes ball hones specific for Nikasil cylinders. http://www.enginehones.com/niapho.html (Message edited by willmrx on January 16, 2017) |
