Hey all, I just got a 01' X1, traded my KLR for it. It rides like a beast. I love it. Does anyone know the proper hose routing for the Oil tank? the guy I got it from routed them up above the belt and it its very close to the exhaust pipe. Makes me worry.

Compressor hose ,nice! Looks like the battery strap is missing!? and there is a piece of allen bit stuck into a bolt of the sideplate. |

Looks like a yes on the allen bit broken off, didn't notice that before. Nice find. Belt does feel kinda slack, so its suppose to be that way? Yes battery is loose in the tray, i'll have to rememdy that. The hoses say they are rated for oil and fuel, looked up the part number on the side, says its good to 320 deg. don't think oil gets that hot. But it is very close the exhaust. that's my bigger concern at the moment. Thanks for all the observation so far. I have another pic from the otherside, so you guys can give it a once over.

Looks like Egagnon086 should start a thread I've been tempted to start, which is "How to weld on a vehicle without frying it's electronics". With a welder and a welding blanket, he could tack a sacrifical bolt onto that existing bolt with the broken allen wrench in it, and spin it right out, and replace it with a new one. 15 minute job. So, anyone, how do you weld to a modern vehicle without lobotimizing it's electronics? Is it even possible to do it safely? It wasn't a problem on my 78 KZ-400 that I welded all sorts of stuff on.... God bless points systems. |

I'll probably drill that broken tip out, now that I know its there. I've welded on a late 90's bmw before, disconnect the battery and the ECU. Then ground the frame well. |

I don't think you would have to weld on the allen to get the stub out. I would wager some gentle taps would unwedge it from the inside of the screw. Once it's loose, a little magnetism may be all it takes. The fuell filter is supposed to be mounted to that odd bracket between the jugs on the left side. I'll try to get some glamor shots tonight of that as well. |

That's cool about the oil lines. I've never seen transparent ones before. They'd go perfect on an XB with the transparent bodywork! |

I would worry also... buy some trans cooling line & do it the right way. it is a pita but do it! PS I have a couple parts laying around for that bike lmk Good luck w her & welcome to the asylum!! |

Another issue you may have is... Front pulley retention plate has moved, been moved. I would check the final drive splines and the splines on the pulley. By the way, the pulley splines are sacrificial, so they go before the splines on the output shaft. Buy a new retention plate, large nut and the screws to hold it all together. Several bucks will get all this. Another thing, the large nut has Loctite (white) on it from the factory. Make sure you follow the field service manual to the "t" regarding torque and degree setting of retention plate/large nut. VERY IMPORTANT! Congrats on the your "new" X1 Lightning and welcome to BadWeb. |

Service manual shows exact routing of the hoses. You could use an s1 manual also pretty sure they are the same |

I've got a jims meganut. Don Casto recommends going to the meganut and abandoning the 50 cent harley one. I don't have the pulley holding tool though, so I haven't attempted to put it on in fear of damaging drive gears. I may check with a local shop and see if someone has a holding tool. |

Anyone have pics of these oil lines under the bike, service manual just says route them under there from what I can tell. As for the nut and retainer washer. I guess I will go to the local Harley dealer and pick those up before I attempt to remove it. Anyone know what size that is? I did find some more things to work on, rear brake line is leaking where the fitting meets the hose on the caliper end. Also found a broken what looks like ground. See pics of my findings
Also missing this bolt any idea what is suppose to go here?

Also I'm missing the bolt that holds on the side stand switch? anyone know what size length? Also does this pic of the drive pulley indicate the splines are toast or maybe just bad torque on the nut?

The manual has disgrams if the oul line routing in the back Muffler bracket has a spacer and a bolt washer washer nut Nut lock looks bad Get rid of your side stand switch solder and seal the wires together or you will regret it. |

On my X-1, there is a main chassis ground bolt almost directly above the end of the wire shown in your photo. Check there for the other end. And my main wiring harness is tucked up and in compared to yours. Again my X-1, the oil lines run aft, under the cam chest, then hang a left and run under/aft of the bottom of the transmission case and then up between the left side of the swingarm mounting block and the backside of the primary case, then up to the bottom of the oil tank. And yeah, like S1owner says, most folks here unplug and discard the sidestand switch and connect the two harness ends of the switch connection together. Hope this helps, Dave |

There is supposed to be a bolt and spacer there to attach the exhaust to the hanger. I wouldn't ride it too long without that support. You'll end up breaking the studs in the head, and that's no fun. |

Understood everybody, Thanks for all the input. The guy I got this from works at the local, "Custom" shop and I guess he just got tired with this thing. I'm going to go back through it and try my best to make it as close to stock condition as I can. Can I order the buell specific parts from the local Harley dealer. Like the battery hold down? Or if anyone has one of these lying around I'd be interested. I'll probably follow yalls lead when it come to soldering the sidestand switch. Anyone know what exhaust this is, PO said it was a V&H, id don't see any plate or name on it. It does have the "Race ecu" in it, or at least that's what the ecu has printed on it. |
