During a Buell weekend down in Cali, can't remember which event this was: Of all awful luck, the owner/manager of the motel happened to drive by while I had the door to our room open (could've been because we had a gigantic five-room motel party going on...) and saw the BLURR parked inside (GASP!) my room. The man went absolutely, stark-raving, so-mad-he-was-spitting-and-could-barely-speak apoplectic, demanding at the TOP OF HIS LUNGS that I get my *&%$@)! motorcycle outta his motel room! Which I promptly and politely did, with all due apologies. And then he called the po-po on us. Lucky for us, however, one of the Buellers in our party was, in fact, an off-duty cop, who carried a gold-plated "Get Out Of Jail" card with him wherever he went (which we used to our advantage on more than one occasion...). Party on, Garth. Party on, Wayne. PS: Parking my S2 in there sure made it awkward to get to the bathroom, but it seemed like such a small price to pay for having it so close... |

Too distracted by Court's story (even though I was trying to focus on the Bonneville story...). Still have all of the accessories shown in the P&A article (and the bike in the Bonneville photo). Met Court for the first time while working at the IMS shows mentioned (New York). Lot of memories on those pages. |

Any fat guy sizes left 2xxx 3xxx As you can tell from the shirts I've already listed, I used to fit into mediums and larges - NOT NO MORE! I've got exactly ONE manly-man-sized shirt left in my Buellish collection. This is from Blue Groove/Northwest in '97. This is my last BGNW shirt. It's been washed, but has never been worn. The material is very thick and plush. Will this size fit you? That's Mount St. Helens represented in the graphic. Let me know if you're interested. FB |

Here's a come-on about BGNW in the Spring '97 (volume 3, issue 1) edition of BRAG's The Road Ahead: We actually did two formal adventure rides with Erik, one on Saturday up to Mount St. Helens, and another one on Sunday, a scenic loop through the Oregon countryside, with a stop at Latus Motors (one of our sponsors) in Portland, and then finished back at Portland International Raceway. Great fun! |

And here's some of the coverage I did in the PAC/BOG newsletter after the gig: Tell ya what: If the shirt will fit you and you're interested in purchasing it, I'll toss in a copy of the PAC/BOG newsletter (24 pages) as shown above (I've only got three copies left). I've got a particular dollar amount in mind... (Message edited by fb1 on December 09, 2016) |

Too distracted by Court's story (even though I was trying to focus on the Bonneville story...). Screamer! Good to hear from you, amigo - Brankin and I were just talking about you!! Met Court for the first time while working at the IMS shows mentioned (New York). Lot of memories on those pages. I met YOU for the first time during the Sturgis rally in '96. You were kind enough to invite me to your home in Rapid City for a visit, then absolutely kicked my sorry, snotty little ass when you showed me the fast way on your S2 down Nemo Road! I've got some pix I'd like to post up of you and the Bros from those days - do you mind? Remember who was the "special guest" on the Seattle IMS BRAG-PAC/BOG ride to Cafe Veloce back in January, 1997? Remember how cold it was, and how wet and crappy the roads were? At least I beat you to the restaurant.......I think.......

Ferris, Always good to read your posts! Posting photos? - Sure, I probably looked the same as now except for hair color/weight/height/posture. Yes, I remember the ride to Cafe Veloce. Fun - yes, but I don't remember it being cold - then again I'm from the Dakotas (cold???). You probably beat me to the restaurant, although I'm seldom second when it comes to food... |

Sure, I probably looked the same as now except for hair color/weight/height/posture. Well, for anyone who doesn't know you personally, you're one of only two peeps in this pic (Hi Patty!) without a beard: Yes, I remember the ride to Cafe Veloce. I interviewed the owner of Cafe Veloce, for an article and photos to be published in Thunder Press, about a month before our visit during the IMS. To be blunt, he seemed to be ill-tempered and have a lot of 'tude for someone who was getting such great advertising, for such a great price (i.e., free!). So I didn't feel quite so bad when I did this to one of his bikes during our IMS visit: If he'd seen me do this (believe it or not, his wife painted all the bikes in there) they'd still be processing the crime scene! Fun - yes, but I don't remember it being cold - then again I'm from the Dakotas (cold???). Denise and I were just out there in August, and again in September (http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/fbad-life-on -the-blue-ridge.722684/page-192 - scroll down, and then follow the pages...), my third time in the Black Hills (two Sturgis visits), her first, and she fell in love with the place. Spent a night westbound at the KOA in Rapid (nothing noteworthy except for the B1 that strafed us descending into Ellsworth), and spent two nights eastbound at the KOA next to Mount Rushmore - sweet! Fell head-over-heels-in-love with Hill City (multiple rounds of dark beer while sitting outside watching the sun go down at the Mangy Moose - yum!).......but.......their frikkin' weather forecast for the coming week calls for consistent temps in the negative numbers - dayum! Sure liked the zero-humidity thing, tho... You probably beat me to the restaurant, although I'm seldom second when it comes to food... That's because I was the only one who knew exactly where we were going! Your bike that day was a loaner from Destination H-D/Buell in Tacoma. When I told them who it was for they upped the insurance coverage by several grand and begged me to bring it back in one piece. No promises, I said - I've ridden Nemo Road with this guy before...

Remember when you sicced Napier on me? Yeah, sure, he says, I'd be glad to show you Iron Mountain Road! He pretty much kicked my arse, pretty much like you did on Nemo. Late in the ride he tells me his front motor mount is busted. I looked; sure enough, clean through. Then he says, "Hey, take my pic!" "But...but...your motor mount!" I said. "Yeah, but the lighting is so good!" You have interesting friends.

Entering South Dakota in August '96 with my friends Jim and Molly (husband and wife) and What-About-Bob?: This is Jim and Molly as we were coming up on Sturgis on I-90. At this point we'd been on the road for several days and everyone was feeling a little giddy:

I really didn't have a place to stay in Sturgis that first year; I kinda made it up as I went. One night I spent ALL night in a booth at a truck stop in Rapid City, working on a piece for Thunder Press. I ate and wrote (in longhand, way before laptops), then slept and wrote, then ordered coffee and wrote, then slept some more and wrote. One of my goals come sun-up was to be the first motorcycle on Main Street, Sturgis the next morning. I was pretty much a caffeinated zombie at this point, but I was successful: As I was taking this pic I could hear bikes in the distance, and in short order it was wall-to-frikkin'-wall. Party on, Garth. |

Enjoying the photos! Napier always preferred one wheel over two. The Main Street photo is great - remember seeing that one before - maybe in the newsletter? Had forgotten about the ceremony of applying the Buell decal to the restaurant bike. Surprising there were no casualties... Sending you a PM. |
