Hey guys. I have a problem when opening wide for a certain amount of meters. As if it starves. Then i let off and she gets idle again and off i go. But 3/4 throttle is perfect. Any tips or ideas as to what it could be?

If you have your stock CV carb check the slide diaphragm for holes or tares.

First I'd check the petcock to make sure the screen isn't plugged up or some other problem with flow.

If that's good, I'd check the float level next.

If not a clogged petcock time to buy a gallon of Gunk HydroSeal, strip the carb and give it a soak.

Thanks guys. Ok my petcock and fuel line is checked and all clear. I did find a nice video on youtube by "shane conley" on float level adjustment. i'll try that next and post again.

Steven, i read your post, and i thought you were riding the bike and motor was under load and when you give it WOT while your riding it cuts out. but after reading the post. i think the bike is stationary & you just started it, and giving it full WOT while it is still ( not moving or undderload)
so is it happening when it is idling? & what carb?
Lance right could be leak in diagram if it's a CV, but i just remove the air cleaner and look at slide while motor is running, then give it throttle see if slide goes up, if not it has a hole in diampram.
i think i have ridden Harleys with CV carb since 1997 still have not had a hole in diagram yet.

I did put a diaphragm in where it wasn't fully seated and it would fall on its face as soon as you gave it the gas.
Won't do that again!

Lakes. Yes i am riding perfectly fine throughout the whole throttle range except for when im gunning to keep up with the guys at 5th gear or 4th gear. I cant tell you my rmp coz i have to install clocks. Bought it without. But its quite high rpms for a certain amount of meters.

Could be that you over revving it!
Or the voes is not working as it should!?

if the gas tank breather hose is semi collapsed it will run fine until the WOT when fuel consumption increases. if the tank does not let in enough air? fuel starvation.

@Ralph no its been like that since i bought it second-hand.
@brotherinbuells I've tested the voes seems ok. At first I found a loose wire but still had the issue.
@dannybuell I have a short tube on as a breather but even tested it with my tank cap loosened and still happens

You might be hitting a rev limiter like Brother in buells suggested.

Steven , if you remove gas hose from carb, get a container to catch gas with, turn the petcock to on then reserve, if gas flows out freely , turn that off and re connect to carb that tell's you your getting gas ok, & if motor pulling strong till it cuts out at full WOT , i would guess you are hitting the rev limiter , if no clock to tell you what rev the simplest thing i can think of to solve this is a shift light that you can set at any rev. keep re setting shift light to come on at a lower RPM till it comes on just before motor cuts out, so you can shift up a gear before it cuts out.
i keep my rev limiter set at 6,000 as these motors last longer if you don't rev them over 6,000
good luck with it. i have Dyna p ignition module that mounts like stock unit but you can select advance curve and set rev limit, it's a good unit.

OK I managed to get the time to remove the carb.(first time since I own her). first thing I checked was the accelerator pump diaphragm has cracks. second was the float level was lean. also noticed the previous owner had caused a few problems when he had it. for example cracked the diaphragm cover. the pin holder for the float needle was repaired with the same epoxy as the cover...
called it a night for now. could any of these make it cut out and starve like I explained above? it doesn't feel like rev limiting... it's more like I've gone over to reserve if I had to put it that way. like it's starved and gets fuel again after freewheeling for say 50 meters

So the float level was too low?
Does that mean the previous hack jetted it too rich so that it would run?
