As a new 1125r owner (a 2008) I am trying to read up as much as I can. It isn't my first streetbike, actually my 14th... Anyway, I do have some issues that maybe one of you can help shed some light on... I rode for a few hours on Saturday, and about 1/2 way through the ride the bike stalled a few times at idle, I was able to start it up again without issue, took about 3 or 4 seconds of cranking... Then, the bike ran fine, even at idle the rest of the ride... Anyway, I have read about pump and thermistor issues, completely makes sense to me. Weird thing is, the problem only happened for a bit 1/2 way through the ride and then went away... To isolate a few variables, the bike has an EBR ECU and HMF exhaust. This is the first tank of gas I have added since buying the bike and I ran 5 oz of Seafoam to the 5 gallons of gas, I have probably gone 1/2 way through the tank. The bike has 15K on it and I have no idea the maintenance history... So, do I chalk this up to the Seafoam knocking crud loose? There is a low fuel pressure error stored in the computer, but no new codes or check lights have come up at any time while I have been riding... Bike runs very strong, no issues off idle either, you keep the throttle pinned and no issues. My last 2 bikes were an 06' and 05' R1, this bike is fairly close on power, not much less in my opinion... I am not worried at all about pulling the pump out, I would probably just rebuild the whole assembly, change the pump and any solid state components on the assembly, too... I just want to be sure and buy the right pump, I can figure out the thermistor part... Do you guys think I should just ride it and see what happens? Anyway, thank you in advance for any input. -Mike |

The 1125 needs good fuel. I have had to put some gas in my 1125 from some sketchy fuel stations on some road trips with poor results. It is a bit sensitive. I try my best to only run BP 93 octane without ethanol. I wouldn't be surprised if seafoam could hurt it's runability. |

I am not sure if I can get 93 around here (Colorado Springs), I have been putting 92 in. I figured the Seafoam would maybe have knocked something loose, but it has been running smoother as that tank gets emptied... So it is doing something... Thanks for the links, I am going to do the TPS reset and run it in diagnostic mode next time I ride to watch fuel pressure, I guess you can keep it in diagnostic mode for a while if you want? |

clean/check the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC)...it may be the culprit...good luck |

So this happened once and hasn't happened since? I'd just keep riding it to see if it happens again. |

So ran the entire Seafoam tank out, put in a new tank of gas and did the TPS reset. The first 100 miles has ran perfect. So I am going to attribute the stumbles to cleaning. Idle fuel pressure is 400 Kpa... Doesn't vary too much... |

Well, it did it again today after about an hour of riding... Came to idle at a stop light and it just died like it was out of fuel. Cranking 2 or 3 times it came back to life, acting fuel starved for a few seconds... Then the next 30 or 40 mins no issues... Weird... So a few things, I did open the fuel cap before restarting and got s big whoosh of air, can't say if it was vacuum or pressure, but I could hear it with my helmet on... So I will have some time this winter to do any work. Do you guys think I should start by cleaning any/all venting fuel emissions items? Or pull the pump assembly and rebuild? I don't mind doing any of this, just would like to have a good idea where to start instead of shotgun troubleshooting... Anyway, thanks in advance for any help! |

One of the effects of having the fuel in the frame, is that the fuel gets hot and pressurizes the tank. Odds are, the sound you head was the pressure being relieved when you you open the gas cap. The fuel injectors or the IAC could be dirty. I had a similar issue with mine. I replace the fuel injectors, after trying everything else, and the problem went away. The last thing is you may want to check the valve lash on the rear cylinder to see where they are. The rare cylinder is the easiest to check. |

Thanks. I planned on cleaning the IAC. It just doesn't make sense how it runs perfect, acts fuel starved and then goes back to normal... |

The other thing you could check, when it stalls, is the fuel tank vent line and see if it is venting fuel vapor. |

WASG... (Note: kinda hung up on it being electrical) a) battery age, connection clean and tight? b) AC output from Stator, big grey connector under the seat- clean and tight? c) Voltage Rec & Reg...connections clean and tight, unit bolted tight against sub frame ( the sub frame acts as a heat sink) d) Clutch lever switch ( can you downshift from 2nd to neutral and brake to a stop without the engine stalling?)...unplug the clutch lever switch does the problem still exist? e) Clutch not dis-engaging (Mechanical issue) (when was the last time you bleed the clutch hydraulic system/checked for leaks?) f) Ignition switch "short"... at idle when you turn the bars...does it stall? g) Grounds...add a duplicate ground h) try disconnecting the headlights ( easy to do ...look for the big connector up front that leads to the lights) the lights draw a great deal of current/voltage...if it still stalls, then I would look at the fuel. i) out here in SoCal the gas sucks , only 91 octane is available, I have best results running Shell premium. j) have you tried running some race gas?...(100+ Octane mixed with pump gas...the race gas may act like a cleaner for the injectors) (https://vpracingfuels.com/) hth Merry Christmas |

Nuts - you're thinking too much. 1125s just seem to do that every now and then, more so with low mileage. Raising the idle rpm a couple hundred rpm with a programmable ECM or using ECMSpy will fix this issue if it really gets bad. Another common trick they like to play is to die when you try to rev the motor at idle. If you've seen the intakes yet, you can understand, 61mm throttle bodies let in a lot of air that can overrun the fuel and make the motor stumble/die. Hope you enjoy yours as much as most of us here. If you make it up Longmont way, shoot me a PM beforehand, would love to meet another 1125 owner. Zack |

Ok, well after some more troubleshooting and talking to EBR techs I am going to swap out the pump assembly. It isn't my ECU, IAC or voltage/charging issues. I found this NIB OEM one online from St Paul HD. I ordered it Sunday and it arrived today. I'll swap in the next few weeks and let you guys know how it works...

Well, finished up the fuel pump assembly swap today. It took about 4 hours, but I also Helicoiled a stripped out bolt hole (that took over an hour by itself)on the idler pulley mount, the previous maintenance had been performed by a ham-fisted idiot... Anyway, the bike seems to be running perfect, I haven't gone on any long rides yet, but the fuel pressure is perfect. Also, there used to be a pretty noticeable surging at about 4K RPM when you tried to stay at a constant speed, that completely disappeared. The idle is much smoother now too. I hope this solves the fuel issues, as that is all that was wrong with the bike. I'll let you guys know how it works after a long ride. |

Rode for about an hour today. Bike runs perfect now. When it drops to idle there are no stumbles or anything. It is running much smoother overall. The pump must have been on its last legs, as thing runs like a completely different bike. Super happy with everything and think I will keep this one around for a while. |
