Does anyone know anything about this hydraulic clutch on my X1?

I'm not sure where I got it (maybe ebay) or if it came on the bike, bike is back to life after 8 years. I am not sure if I like the feel and I am considering converting back to the stock clutch maybe with an easy pull. I broke my wrist several years ago and though my hands are strong repeated use causes aches and pains.

Well looks like a Magura but dont know. I think if you are having pain a regular clutch might not be better but maybe.
I would trade my stock stuff for your hydraulic if you wanted to do that

That is for sure a matmechx ( not sure how to spell it right) .
I also have weak hand, so I have a bit of experience, tried the magura, but was not to good and you had to set the lever the furthest away as possible.

Then I got the muller and it is the best invest I did, I recommend not to buy the easy clutch, but invest in the muller is far better, is double the price of the easy, but much better, as it doesn't increase the leverage distance compared to stock.

A friend installed this same item on an XB12 he had to get something done to his primary case after fitting it he said it was the same as hard as the stock cable, so he spent a lot of money and didn't get what he expected.

Thanks for identifying it. I may try to play around with the size of the master and or try rebuilding the slave.

You are right on: http://metmachex.net/engineering/clutch-conversion s/

I will research the muller.

I like the idea of having a mechanical vs hydraulic clutch.. At the very least a clutch failure will leave you stranded

Considering how long the bike sat, a complete overhaul and rebuild would not be a bad idea. After fresh fluids, clutch adjustment, ect the feel may be such that you won't need to change.

Hope this helps, Dave

For me the muller was something I should have done in first place, the idea is so simple smaller balls close to the centre and it works, the easy clutch makes longer ramps so you need more lever travel, with muller the lever travel doesent change from stock. I don't work for muller

Was just going to say Muller I have never tried but they seem to be reviewed well and accomplish what your looking.
I am not sure if it will work with the hydraulic clutch, but with stock it would work

Related question: I seem to remember that the Muller clutch is not compatible with the Barnett 9 plate kit – does anyone know if that's true?

If the stock works with the barnett, the muller also as is the same as the stock.

If you look at the both links you can see the difference in length of the grooves and how far from the center they are, yes the price difference is that the easy is just the back ramp and the muller is the complete set.

I'm going to get another Buell and I'll save a few $ because the muller is installed, but if it haven't it would be the first thing i'do.

I took some measurements of the metmachex clutch in case anyone is interested. The inner diameter of the piston is 20mm and the outer is 35mm making for an effective size of 28.7mm.

I may try a 12x20 brembo master cylinder as they came stock on many 2000's ducatis, KTM's and other european bikes and are available on ebay for under $50.

Go you and get yourself some captains of crush.
Do some deadlift,some pull ups.
Work on your grip and you don't need any clutch
light version.
Men or mice?

It's not a strength issue.
Applying force means applying force on tendons and carpal tunnels and all of that other complex crap in your hand.

Connective tissue and cartilage is the slowest growing and therefore hardest to heal.
Sometimes it just doesn't get 100% better.

The first time you ask a doctor about how long it will take to "get better" and they answer "it won't" is a pretty sobering moment.

I had my ulneal nerve fused to the bone in my left forearm ten years ago. Followed Ralph's advice after losing a lot of weight during chemo, worked out with fifteen pound dumbbells when I should have used tens, and grew new muscle tissue all around the sheath of the nerve. Had to form a hook with my fingertips and pull the clutch lever with my shoulder until I got it surgically corrected. Could not make a fist or ball my hand. Now I'm as good at gripping the lever as I was fifty years ago with my first bike.

I have a miotonic (or Steinert) distrphy that mostly affects hands, I have little force in then, I can't open a simple bottle of water, or blow up a ballon, some thing any one can do, this is progressive but no fix pattern of evolution, fortunately is going slow and doing some little mods to the bike I can still ride, but up to when? Don't know, but a have a 4 month old nephew, so I hope when he has the age he will appreciate these exclusive and classic bikes, if I can't ride at that time I hope he does, if he doesent they will go to my lounge as ornaments.

My hand isn't nearly as bad as you guys have described. I broke my wrist and hand and get pain after repetitive use including typing. My hand is perfectly strong and I can deadlift in the 400 pound range.

for those who need it there are auto clutches made by a couple of companies that are compatible with buell and sportster bikes

I met a one armed guy that rides a sportster who has one setup.

He even drag races with it.
