Buell xb9sx 2007. Riding one day and starts bogging down at 3k rpm on all gears. Backfired here and there and would stall. After reading forums. Replaced Cam Position Sensor. Rode it the next day to work with no issue (25miles freeway). Almost made it home when it started acting up again. Same symptoms. This time it shutdown and when I turned ignition got the fan and engine light shooting off multiple codes. Overheating, TPS, and another sensor. My thought from forums that this is an electrical issue. I'll post pics of the wires I'm looking at but I don't see any wear. I don't have a breakout box but is there another way to test the ECM wires for a short so that I can narrow down which wire is causing the issue? I do have a Buelltooth to read codes etc. I am new to the electrical world. I've only had to deal with mechanical repairs. Any thoughts. |

Welcome Brikker ,the electric issues are almost always the hardest ones to get. You can make a test lamp with soldering two wires with a 12v fitting onto a burned out fuse and put that in the fuse box when pulling and moving the wires. Also have a good look at the tps at the intake manifold ,sometimes the wires get damaged where they go into the tps I have no experience with ecm spy |

Thanks for the input Brother_in_buells I tested the fuse box with a multimeter and all show the correct resistance. Is there a way to use a multimeter to put one prong in the ECM plug and the other one to the plugs down near the Cam Position Sensor? I have the diagram for the ECM pins but not sure which to match it with. Example: Can I put one prong in ECM grey connector pin #3 (Cam Position Sensor) and the other prong down to the side of the bike on the CPS connector? |

You can't test it without an oscilloscope. They are under $100 now, which is good, but it has a learning curve to use. Not impossible, and when you do it you will learn a lot, but it can be some work. You probably would need a scope to diagnose most inputs for the ECM, because the problem anywhere could be transient. |

if you start it up today will it ride good until you again reach about 25 miles |

Check voltage and grounds also. That could be indicated when "lots of things" are all reading as going wrong at the same time. Oh, and this is a 9sx! I almost forgot... The wire bundle that goes to the ECM is easy to misroute so that it rests on the sharp edge of a battery terminal (I forget if it was + or -). If you do, it can get a microscopic little nick and short out. Almost too small to see. Look for obvious damage, and armor or route that wire so that it doesn't rub on that terminal. |
