I own a 97 s1 which has the nissin caliper on the front. I found a pm caliper with some new in package ebc pads for next to nothing. From what i can tell this pm caliper is for 98+ buells. Im in need of new pads so i was thinking about buying the pm caliper but im not sure if it will bolt up to my 97- if it does bolt up does the pm caliper offer any better braking performance than the nissin setup thats on my bike? |

My 97 S1 came with the PM. The Nissin was the 98+ part IIRC. I would bet the move to Nissin was a cost decision and not a performance one. The PM has excellent feel and performance. I say go for it. |

Make sure you pair it with the correct master cylinder... |

From what I've gathered, I think the shape of the pads are different. I don't remember what caliper my 97 S1 has, I think it's the Nissin. It's the one that has the Pegasus logo on it, not the one that says "Buell" on it. I think the only difference from what I've gathered is mine uses a 5/8th master cylinder and I think the other caliper uses 1/2", but there's plenty of those on ebay. |

I just did some googling to find out which one was which. The ones that say Buell on the outside of the calipers are the nissin brakes, it's written on the back side of one of the mounting tabs where it bolts to the fork. I'm assuming that means my caliper with the Pegasus is a PM caliper. For the record it was pretty easy to find pads for it, I just replaced them a couple weeks ago. EBC FA210, there are plenty on ebay and wherever else. |

Hahaha.... you may also find a REALLY OLD caliper that says "BUELL". If you do, holdings to it. :-) |

Interesting. A little history Basti/Court? EBC still do pads for the old PM callipers. FA210 I think - I bought Matt's (Trojan Horse) old stock of SBS pads a while back because they are less prone to leaving deposits on the discs. They still come up on eBay from time to time - as do PM branded pads. |
