Hello fellow buellers! I need some help figuring out exactly what is going on in my clutch. For the past few months I have been chasing an elusive nock/sound coming from my primary area after running the bike at highway speed. After multiple chain adjustments and a few weeks of “its just a buell noise”. I couldn’t stand it any longer and tore off my primary cover! Once inside I discovered significant clutch basket wobble, I did not see any marks on the case however it did have a fair amount of slop. So after pulling off the clutch and inspecting it. I am at a little bit of a loss. The roller bearing in shell looks and feels fine as does the race on the clutch hub. The part that does not look fine however is the inner thrust washer #26 if you are looking at the exploded diagram of the clutch in the manual. The inner thrust washer is covered with fine metal shavings/powder. My thrust washer is able to spin and is not pinched between the race and the clutch hub. Is this normal? Or is this were I am getting some of play for my clutch basket wobble. Thank you for the help! |

You probably mean thrust washer #16 ,but it could be a different number between the 2007 parts book and the 2004 parts book. I did check that thrust washer on a clutch hub i have in the parts stash and the thrust washer is tight in between the hub and the inner bearing race ,but when getting a good grip with your fingers it does spin. Do you have a thrust washer behind the clutch basket to? maybe a weird suggestion ,but i know from a xb that did not have that thrust washer and the basket did wobble to! |

I'm not familiar with XB's at all but are you able to see the input shaft bearing behind the clutch? See pictures: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=47623&post=1822283#POST1822283 |
