Looking at an 05 XB9 with 40K on the clock, but 05 motor with 6K on it. It has new throttle and clutch cables, front fork bushings and seals, Owned by former Buell mechanic. Other than obvious stuff like tires, belt, ... what else to look for? Value? (Message edited by lancruza on August 02, 2016) |

That's a tough one to price. The 9 is an amazing little bike. Relative to the 12, it is down on torque at low RPM, and a little down on peak power. But that higher redline sounds like nothing else, and the 9's have been crazy reliable. I think it is the sweet spot for these motors. I really liked my XB9SX. At 40k that is probably a $2000 bike if it is going to move quickly. At 6k miles, I'd say it's a $3500, *if* you can find somebody that wants that XB9S niche. Ultimately with all the work and the milage on the chasis, it's probably closer to the $2000 end of the spectrum. Take that all with a grain of salt though. That's market price relative to all other motorcycles. If I were to put an emotional value on the bike you describe, it seems like a $5000 bike all day long. It's a superior SV-650 and ZR-750, which were good deals at $5k. In other words, if somebody told me they saw it, liked it, and spent $5000 for it because it was close and convenient I would think they overpaid but got a great bike for the money. So it kind of comes down to what you want to pay, how badly they want to sell, and how many are around you for sale. Wheel bearings are worth looking at, make sure the exhaust studs aren't broken, and the 05's had the problematic pinion gear for the oil pump, so replace that (or inspect to make sure the previous owner replaced it) with the new part. They really are great bikes, provided you don't want to do more than 300 miles in a day very often. (Message edited by reepicheep on August 02, 2016) |

Thanks, sounds like a pretty fair analysis. Your thought process is about the same as mine. I'm going to look at it on Saturday. I had an 09 XB12SS for 2 years back in 2012. I currently have an 01 SV650. I really like the SV but I'm missing the XB. Not a speed demon over here, just enjoy riding. I just hope to be able to look at it and spot any problems that may be there. |
