While its down I'm thinking of orderin some heat wrap. I'm looking at dei 2" 15' titanium color heat wrap at summit. Is this enough for the header? I was thinking of wrapping each pipe individually all the way to the Y joint. Have not wrapped a header like this before only a down pipe. Did you use stainless zip ties or pipe clamps. |

I wouldn't do it. Personally I think they look like crap, and it does bad things to the header itself. If you're worried about heat, spend the money and have it jet-hot coated. Looks better, lasts longer, and your choice of colors. |

Dont do it!!!!!!! The wrap really weakens the header. I dont know how it does it wether its the traping of heat or friction from fiberglass but it really does damage it I lost a header do to that became very brittle! |

I see a lot of people doing this and I am sure it does help with the heat but there are several downsides: It holds the heat in which causes additional stress on the header/metal; hence, becomes brittle, cracks, rusts, etc. Holds dirt and moisture which leads to rust, corrosion, and markings. If it was a show bike and not used a lot, then maybe but doesn't seem worth the risks. Jet-hot will help reduce heat while also protecting the header, inside and out. |

Looks cool helps with heat had it on for 1 1/2 yrs then had to throw my nice stainless header away there was spyder cracks in places like bends etc.

Damn when I got the bike it had the stainless header and it has a spot with some rash on it. So I was thinking of wrapping it. Well I don't want to buy another header right now and plan to ride it more so I guess I'll have to live with it and leave it. I also burned the bottom of my backpack hanging it on my handle bar taking a break. Melted some of the synthetic material. I'm used to dirt bikes so never was an issue before. Thanks everyone.

Ive had heat wrap on my stainless header on my S1 for over 10 years (layed it down and scuffed it up once and put a second coat right over it). This summer I took it off as it was denigrating after 25-30 k miles and there is no damage to the header. If you are going to eventually r4eplace it what do you have to loose. It will take a lot more then you think, somthing like 8 inches per linear inch. (Message edited by tod662 on July 09, 2016) |

I always think of a mummy , when i see that bandage wrap. i had some on a dyna twin cam for a short time. i don't like it i like jet hot in silver, but i had a pipe crack in half that was jet hot coated, but the old 45 degree with male female rods & single crank pin, works like a giant impacter, so will eventually crack or loosen something no matter. & its the same design from sportster to twin cam from knuckle panhead shovel & flathead, iron head& evo sporty, so if you are worried about cracking a pipe or something else, don't let a bit of bandage around your pipe scare you!! if you want heat rap do it. |

If you already have a dent, seems the risk is less? Some swear by the wrap. Just like many things the feedback is all over the place. I like the look and could use some help with the heat. Here is some info i found that mentions a silicone spray to seal the steel: http://exhaustsystemsguide.com/exhaust-wrap/ Not all headers are stainless either so i am sure that changes things some. Stainless can still rust though especially is moisture is constant. Here in FL everything rusts...lol. |

What i understand is that only the KT headers have or had this cracking problem! Just give it a try if you like the idea! You can use stainless or copper wire instead of band clamps to secure the wrap at the ends and y section. |

I only use it on my Triumph Sprint ST because it will Roast Your NUTS without the RAP and will Keep it On !!!!!!!!!! It has under seat exaust looks nice but has its Price !!!!!!!!! Hot without rap (Message edited by ebutch on July 10, 2016) |

Nice touring kit. Kinda want a sport touring bike but traffic is getting more congested every year. I like the k1300s and s1000rr or busa with lsl kit. One of my bikes has a catalytic converter built into the stock pipe near the leg. Probably not as bad as under the seat. It can get real hot in the summer when it's stop and go traffic. |
