Pulled out my primary drain plug and stuck to the magnet was a tine 1/4" ID Circlip. Smaller than the one used on the clutch adjustment rod. Bike runs and drives fine, No issues shifting or anything. Is this part of the Shift detent mechanism? |

Looks like it. Do NOT ride it before fixing it. |

Man oh man were the gods looking out for you. . . . . Take the gift you've been given, put the keys in the bottom or your took box and don't ride until the new one is properly in place. Cool ! |

Hahaha I pulled it out about a month ago and have been riding since. I'll heed your advice and park it. Just to confirm, we are talking number 11 or 18 correct?

Been there, seen that. If you hit piece 48 with a hammer trying to drive it onto piece 21 (shifter shaft) because it has boogered splines, you will cause this circlip to pop off. DAMHIK. |

>>>If you hit piece 48 with a hammer trying to drive it onto piece 21 (shifter shaft) because it has boogered splines, you will cause this circlip to pop off. Very good to know . . . I haven't whacked it yet . . .but can easily see that happening. |

I always just jam a flat screwdriver in mine to open it up. Slides on easily. |

I had a similar thing happen last year. It was the retaining ring that's behind the shifter pawl (part num: 11185). Here's the thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/771342.html?1444737283 |
