I received an e-mail from a concerned fellow Bueller alerting me to this ad he came across on CycleTrader: http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/8/8/68294988.htm He happened to recognize the pics in the ad as pics of my XB9R. So I can only guess that this rotten bastard is using my pics in CycleTrader in some sort of scam. I e-mailed the seller and gave him a couple days to take the pictures out but he didn't and he didn't answer my e-mail. So today, I e-mailed CycleTrader to see what can be done. I don't want any potential buyers getting ripped off by this clown! What would you do in this situation? Mike. |

Judging by the price he has listed, I would say his intentions are to rip someone off for the full price. I would call the local police and explain the whole thing to them as an attempted fraud in progress. They may have a dept. that works on internet crime that will jump on it. Big brother watches the web for all types of crime.I didn't notice, but if your tag number is in the pics., they may come to you if a fraud is committed. Report the bastard as a community service if nothing else! Jr |

Are your pics up on the net somewhere? If he is just linking to them, pull them down and they will drop off CycleTrader. If he riped them then that will not work. That is for sure a rip off. ck out the price $3500 for a bike with 906 miles? I dont have a CycleTrader with me but go get one and get there 800# off it and call them. Who knows how long it takes them to get to their emails. Sorry I cant help more. |

There's a bunch of folks in Iowa that are probably fairly close to Iowa City. Someone should contact him and ask to come see the bike in person. There is also a telephone number in the ad that someone should be able to do a reverse lookup on and identify the address the number is associated with. You might also be wise to contact your own local P.D. about this. It might be a two-step fraud/theft. You should be very thankfull of the person who tipped you off about this. There are probably a whole slew of detectives who would love to take part in an active sting operation to nab the advertiser. But if it is a fraud attempt then the person also probably reads the site here and is packing his/her bags as we type. |

It could also be someone out to cause problems for the Iowa Book company. Lots of indirect dirty deeds are played at many levels these days.

Yes. The ad is down. I can't believe that CycleTrader responded within 24 hours of the e-mail I sent them. They replied that the ad was removed pending "further investigation" Thanks to all of you for the help and suggestions. If I find out anything else I will post an update. Mike. |

I`ve seem people use photos without permission lots of times on ebay. They just find pics of the same model as theirs and use the photos for their own purposes. Which is usually advertising to sell their bike. It still sucks through! |

Yes, John, I have seen the same thing too. Not just bikes, but most other stuff as well. But the person who used my bike pictures could have found much better pictures on www.buell.com. When I e-mailed CycleTrader, I told them I was more concerned about this guy being a scammer or at least he was guilty of misrepresentation or something. By their response, they seemed to agree. I did put up the pictures where anyone could download them. I never thought they would be used in such a way, however. It just felt weird and wrong when I found this all out. Mike. |
