I believe my stator and or rectifier has crapped out and I can't get any straight answers on where I can buy a new charging system kit or if a sportster kit will fit with a 35 tooth sprocket I'm at a loss here. | ||

Cycle Electric Inc. Item:CE-9100A STATOR Used on 1991-06 Sportsters. Made in USA! I'm running one in my 2000 M2, it's a direct replacement OEM# 29967-89 You can't buy direct from them so search the Web, (CE-9100A), don't get the wrong one. I bought my voltage regulator from Lance @ St. Paul Ebay store. He probable has the OEM Stator too. | ||

Thanks Jim2 I appreciate it what are the odds that it could be a ground issiue or something like that I have voltage in spec coming from the stator now but battery not charging so I was going to say the regulator is bad to but then I been reading on sites and here and I have seen that you can lose the ground somehow but I think that this happened all of the sudden that the component failed | ||

I had same. The insulation on the stator wire had crumbled and was falling off. You couldn't see it without removing the primary cover. It caused stator to ground out. I had many problems at once though. It would be good to take time and go over everything. Take tail piece off for easy access. I covered the new stator and regulator wires with heat shield tube. It's expensive but the OEM heat cover gets hard and when bent will crack and leave sharp edges that will eat into the wires. Also smear a day of high heat sealant around the stator wire plug that goes into primary for wires to exit. | ||

Ok thanks alot i am going over everything my stator checks out for not being grounded out thats good and so is my voltage my resistance check between the legs though is reading .7 when they say it should be between .2-.5 so idk if that will be a problem or not i couldn't see how if its sending voltage to the regulator but not sending from regulator to battery i would say it has to be my regulator shitted out | ||

yea i completely customized this over the winter so i have a cafe tail section now so its all open underneath i can get to everything | ||

Can that stuff going bad cause fuses to blow as well because ever since this all happened my fuse for the neutral and oil light keeps blowing never had a problem until this charging system crapped out | ||

When my regulator went out and my stator was grounding to the case, I never had a single fuse blow. A fuse will blow when the circuit is pulling more current (Amps) then the fuse in that circuit is rated for. That usually means that a power lead is shorting to ground. When that happens it allows infinite current. The current goes high and causes the wires to heat up. The heat melts the material in the fuse allowing the fuse to open breaking the circuit and protecting the components that were in the circuit (if the fuse choice was designed properly in the first place). | ||

One second thought I may have blown a fuse. I can't remember every detail of my nightmare. Sorry, I'm not electrical guru by any means but I believe I'm right about the basics of a fuse blowing. | ||

Yes your right about how the fuses work and why they blow or what causes them they are the fail safe I was just wondering without tearing into the bike didn't know if anyone else had an issue with a fuse blowing after the reg or stator crapped out like mabey they were tied into the same circuit some how but I'm going to just install the new reg i just ordered first and see if that fixes it and it starts charging again becuase I beleive my stator checks out good. Hopefully that's all it is and then it will stop popping that fuse. My stator is deff not grounded out I know that |
