Hello everyone. This morning on my way to work my Blast started stuttering or skipping when I would start to get on the throttle, but would quickly recover at higher rpms. Luckily I was close to work already and got it there. When I parked it I noticed smoke coming out of my PCV valve/breather hose and when I popped my dipstick out, there was a little bit of smome coming out of the oil resevoir(?) too; the dipstick did have a dab of oil on the end. The color of the smoke was mostly white from what I remember and didnt have much of a smell. I just tried starting it up again around lunch time after adding about .25qts of oil and it just sort of turns over for a few seconds and sputters out.

I changed the oil about 500-600 miles ago and havent been great about checking it since, but I added about 1/8th qts about a week ago. When I checked the dipstick before adding oil at lunch, it had a bit of oil on the tip already, leading me to believe that oil probably isn't the issue, but I added some anyway :/. The bike has about 5500 miles on it, but it could be a lot more because the speed sensor was broken when I bought it.

Mods: The carb has been rejetted to 170/45 if my memory is correct and I have done EZ's outerwears filter and stock exhaust mod.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you do anything to your bike before this started happening (anything)?

It does sound a lot like a bad ignition module (which 2000 & 2001's were notorious for having).

Is the spark plug tip tight? (It will be loose or tight, no need to "snug it up" if it's already tight).

Is the spark plug cable on tight?

PVC and dipstick smoke is normal. (Within reason)

I havent done anything to the bike since the time of that oil change. So it's behaved very well over the last 500 miles or so. I didnt notice anything happen, and my commute consists of me going about 80 mph for about 10 miles, i think I would have noticed something at those rpms. The spark plug is new, put it in around the same time of the oil change, but I'll be sure to check that out. Any way to check the ignition module?

My bike has never smoked like that in the 4 months I've owned it and I've probably put 1000 or so miles on it. Thats why that part was so concerning. I do live in northern Virginia where its been pretty humid the last few riding days.

Ill be putting it on a truck after work and bringing it home. Ill be able to tinker with it then. Thanks for the quick responses.

So the first thing I checked when I got to my bike today was the spark plug and the connector/coupler was just kind of dangling on top of the spark plug... sooo I still loaded it in to the truck and will try to get it secured well over the weekend. Thanks for the help!

I'm betting on the spark plug tip being loose.

All that sputtering and such will add to smoke inside the engine, so that's not unusual considering.

I didn't get a chance to take the tank off and take a look directly at the spark plug, but I plugged it back up and have taken it back and forth to work the last 2 days and everything seems fine. I'll probably replace the spark plug cable in the next few months anyway.

You don't have to take the tank off, just reach up and see if the tip is loose. If it's loose enough to cause a problem, you'll feel it.

I assume that you're talking about the tip on the spark plug itself?
