Hey guys. So I can't get the clutch adjusted on my 02 s3. Actually made some headway today and got the clutch unfrozen. This bike has been in pieces for several years and when I put it back together it had charging issues. Long story short the stator had some grounding issues and is now functioning properly. Now that the clutch is free I can't seem to get it to fully disengage without blowing off the Fsm. It is borderline stalling and trying to lurch. Even got a new clutch cable. Can ANYONE please tell me where I can get a shift lever for this thing?! It fractured when I was attempting to remove it from the splined shifter shaft. This bike is on the road to being a cool street fighter but I gotta get this thing up and riding before I can continue modding it. Thanks everyone. |

Take the clutch apart and sand-or-bead blast the friction plates. The shifter was available as an upgrade kit; have your dealer do a search to see if any NOS units are on the market. Also, look in the classifieds here. |

If your clutch is being a jerk to you, it may be the "grenade plate" In the middle of the clutch pack has a double-width plate with brass rivets holding weak springs. The brass rivets are known to wear through and the fragments jam the plates. My X1 lasted 50,000 miles before it did that. |

Ok. If I keep having issues I'll pull it apart and check |

If there's something in there that isn't clutch plate, it's not going to get better on its own. If you wait for a catastrophic failure you will have an epic repair bill. |

as others have said above it sounds like the spring plate (better known as a grenade plate) is going bad. the cure is to get yourself an extra plate clutch kit. I recommend the Energy 1 kit, that NRHS sells, which can be found here: http://nrhsperformance.com/partsdrivetrain.shtml You want part # 14-BTX-11 or 14-BTX-11 combo |
