My 2007, when pushed around in the garage with ignition in OFF position and run/stop switch on stop, would every now and then come alive: the speedo and tach cycle once, nothing else. Very strange. The bike also shuts off randomly every few minutes when running. The ECM looks good (not cracked or abused), the electrical connectors and grounds are also good, battery is nearly new. A broken cable? Where would you advice me to start the search? Thanks for any and all advice!! |

The gauges do the sweep thing when they regain power, so I assume you are losing power or ground up to the front end. It would also explain why the bike is shutting off. |

Thanks, guys! I seem to remember having read about broken wires in the steering neck area before... Just hoped it might be something less traumatic. Any proven troubleshooting approach appreciated! |

It's not that bad. Carefully dissect the wire bundle and run each individual wire through your fingers while inspecting them. They can crack the copper conductor without splitting the insulation. When you find a broken one, splice an inch or so of wire into the break and seal it back up. In your case, the insulation is probably broken and rubbing on something conductive (like another wire). I think I did it with the engine rotated down out of the frame to get access to more of the wire, but it was broken in a place where I could have gotten to it without the engine rotation. Look under the flyscreen as well. |

Cornel- Didn't you say German manufacturers don't believe in color-coded wiring harnesses? Be glad it is not a German vehicle you are trouble-shooting! |

My Mini has color coded harnesses, but it's an English German car, not a German German car. |
