Yes, the S-bend thunderstorm header was 1998 only, and only on the S3/S3T/S1W as those were the first thunderstorm bikes, and the only thunderstorm bikes with the early frame. All later thunderstorm bikes were on the later (99-up) frame, with the T-bend header. FWIW, I ran a stock S2 header (2" rear outlet), with an automotive 2" to 2.5" adaptor and a Buell race muffler on my S2 for a while. Fit fine, worked great, and I could use the stock greenie air filter. But I got tired of the drone on long rides, so I put a stock muffler on, and used the race can on my 01 M2 with race header. |

To me then this 1998 thunderstorm header 2 1/2" front collector puts this header in high performance category and highly sought after $$$$$$ for older tubers. |

In reality...it's "just" a stock header. True, a one-year-only style, but still only worth what someone will pay. And I think most folks who are looking for "performance" will be installing the (more readily-available) race headers anyway. But if originality is key for you, definitely hold on to it. |
