Fellow Buellers, I'm doing a fly'n Ride to pick-up an XP with just under 17k on the clock. The VIN has the "DB" in the series, and the last 3 digits are 090. It was manufactured in NOV 08, according to the VIN plate photo. A couple of questions if I may: 1. Did the 09 police models come with the updated 3 bearing rear wheel? 2. The seller says the topcase has Aux. taillighting installed but that it does not work. Can anyone tell me if the lighting kit was part of the police package for the bike, or is that just some aftermarket kit put on by the original owner? 3. OK maybe three questions! Does anyone know if Rommel HD in Annapolis will still do servicing on Buells, if I have something major go wrong? (G" forbid!) Thanks for your time and reply. I'll be on the road after Monday morning, so I may not be able to reply until the end of the week. Keep the rubber side down, Bob |

1. No. The 3-bearing wheel was a '10 change. If the bike has a silver axle, it has 2 bearings. Black axle, it's been updated after the fact to the 3 bearing wheel. 2. The police bikes shipped as a Ulysses with Outdoorsman side cases. The emergency response kit (lights, siren, electronics, controls) shipped in an Outdoorsman top case and consisted of all the lighting, brackets, wiring, siren, and the "brain" that went under the seat. 3. Not sure about a dealer, but if you're in MD there's enough of us around to get you through |

I got your baby brother at 093. Build date in December 08. Do check your rear wheel bearings. Mine were shot at around 4,000 miles but I expect it had been power washed at some point. I've had a few issues but that stands out in my mind as the most critical. I hope to upgrade at some point. I purchased my bike used with all the police equipment removed but found it on ebay some time ago. It sits in a box but when the Zombies come, maybe I can find a use for it. Enjoy, they are great bikes. |

As froggy pointed out in another thread; a black axle does not necessarily mean a 3 bearing wheel is installed, as the black axle is backward compatible. The 3 bearing wheel WILL have dust/grease seals on both sides of the hub. see: http://www.xr1200.parts.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop /artikelen/WM/2D81DB56-2D44-4A71-AECA-26F6F29F45EC .jpg Where item number 4 are seals and number 13 is the short spacer on the brake side. |

For reference . . . likely lots more here than you want or need . . but I've no time to sort now . . . this is the first 2010 wheel being retrofitted to my 2008 Ulysses.

The "cop kits" were pretty much a collection of aftermarket parts and pieces . . . all of which are readily available. There was a single change to the frame to accommodate the mounting of the 100w siren speaker. As I found out, after being taken into custody riding a factory "Police Interceptor" at Daytona . . running the bike in a configuration that looks like a cop bike (siren or, in my case with POLICE on the side) ain't the brightest move I bought all the "cop parts" . . .decals, switches and so forth . . .just to see what happened when I placed an online order for them. They all arrived within a week. There are likely plenty more in the system as there were many more parts ordered than bikes sold. |

Picked these up from a HD dealer . . . they were in the normal parts system. |

Hahahaha . . . not recently but I'm sure he and I would have had a good time. There are tons of fun pics of us hugging after races that I'm sure would bring us under the microscope of fellow inmates. I was, at the time the wheel came, out still kind of the Buell "try it and see if you like it" victim . . . Rider Comfort kits . . . luge and so forth. Half the fun was the cute notes. from my fellow Elves, we used to find in the boxes. When Flick and Erik sent me the Outdoorsman luggage for the birthday gift Ulysses . . . there was a cute note from April, the Elf-ette in charge or parts and accessories, from the factory. Great memories. The Ulysses rally is an amazing bike. |

I had a rough start with the new scooter. My own fault, really, caveat emptor and all. Had some tire issues so I left the bike for some new rubber in Knoxville, TN. Will pick it up next week, and ride it home, two up. So far I love the motor and her song...,the bike is comfy, got about 40mpg on I-26 and the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Lotsa fun gunning her out of corners. We will see about the handling when she's properly shod. |

SET THE SUSPENSION. It's 3-way adjustable front and rear, for a very good reason. Just sayin'. |

Court, Thanks for the detailed reply. I have a 3 bearing /new rear wheel coming from St. Paul H-D. Lance hooked me up. |

Roger that re:suspension tuning but the front tire was cupped and worn out. So no spirited riding could be had. |

On I-26 before my tires and wheel gave me a problem. (The shop in Knoxville found bad rear wheel bearings, which was causing me problems, they were replaced).
