hello I am new to the forum, so I hope this is in the right spot. I was recently given a 2004 xb12r that was in about 10 different BOXES not wrecked just torn down from end to end. I have done a lot of work and have rebuilt the motor. my issue is there is no throttle shaft or butterfly (that's what I have always called it haha). no help from HD and I would love to avoid buyin a new throttle body. not sure why its not there and the guy who gave it to me has no idea. any help on where to get these items would be a big help. I am so close to firing this thing up and taking it out, I cant wait. I love these bikes and rebuilding this one has been interesting to say the least! |

That might have been the thing that landed it in boxes to start with. They don't fail often, but they do fail. I have a personal suspicion that rerouting the breathers may be a factor in their failure, but that's just smug speculation on my part, as I didn't reroute my breathers. Tootal? You still out there? He was making custom shafts. You would still need the butterfly / throttle plate though. The throttle bodies are pricey new, but you could probably score one on ebay that wouldn't be awful. |

The shaft and butterfly are not available separately from the TB, so the solution if buying new would be to get a whole throttle body. I would look on ebay, even then finding just the shaft and butterfly will be difficult, but I see a bunch of throttle bodies. Do note that you need one from a 2004 - 2007 XB12, the 2008+ models are different. http://www.ebay.com/itm/272072968190 http://www.ebay.com/itm/301869854064 (this one says it fits up to 2010 which is incorrect, but as it was taken from a 2006 it will work (Message edited by froggy on April 29, 2016) |

Thanks for the help, I guess I'll just get the whole thing off eBay that's not bad price wise at all. Worth every penny to get this thing going! |
