So after messing around with this thing for a year I kind of hit a cross road. The bike runs pretty good besides it likes to have a hiccup cruising around 3000 rpms.It needs new fork seals and front disc bushings. It leaks oil from some where and I cant figure it out. Also it likes to leak oil out the tube for the Trans. I think that is what that tube is and from reading around the site I think it could be a bad crank seal. Also it has the problem of the float sticking and flooding the motor with gas. I have went threw the carb and cleaned it three times this year. And to give you some back story one this. My cousin has owned this thing since new and it has sat since 2001. I picked it up last year got it running. Blew a head gasket and replaced it and I am trying to get this thing back up to what it once was. So any help with solving these issues well be awesome.

You might wanna get rid of that shock while you're at it. They were prone to breaking. |

These motors leak oil from the same basic places... Lower rocker box gaskets are paper Push rod tube bases (poor design) Starter gasket Stator plug through case (pull it out, black RTV it and push it back in) Oil pump gasket Head breather bolts Upgrade the following: Front exhaust hangar Front motor mount Rear shock Oil pump drive gear XB rocker box covers with catch can All are "easily?.." Accomplished with most basic tools with a few specialty tools for some... Great bikes.... Lots of fun!!!! Buy a manual, consult the experts here... Dig in... And enjoy!!! |

Jolly where would I get pretty much all of the upgrades at. I know I can get the xb rocker covers off of eBay but what would the benefit of changing it be? And I love the bike so far just for me in Michigan very hard to find parts and no one seems to want to touch it. And when you ask HD for motor parts they just look at you funny or tell you that they don't deal with buells any more. So it gets frustrating at times. |

Although I've seen some with very high mileage and no issues, the original exposed spring shocks were also breaking during street use. |

If anyone is looking at doing the XB rocker box conversion, look faster. The XB rocker box tops have hit the chopping block and has gone obsolete.
