It sounds like a vaguely familiar thing but I though I would bounce this off of the Borg Collective... On my way home from the Northeast dinosaur thing, I stopped for gas and it wouldn't start back up. I poked around and finally saw my headlight fuse was popped and swapping in a spare fixed me right up. I was certain that it would blow again but it hasn't yet. Anyone lose a headlight 15A fuse for no apparent reason? | ||

Hey Nate, I lost the fuse once when my low beam was burned out. I had ridden for a couple of days with the light out, then for some reason (I guess the bad bulb shorted?) the fuse popped. The ECM won't let you start without a headlight circuit. Barry Hollister, CA | ||

Over this weekend, I poked around under the airbox and found plenty of chafed wires but nothing that would have been able to touch metal. I bought a sack of 20A fuses and jammed them under the seat. I'll just have to wait to see if it happens again. | ||

Just in case put a voltage meter on the battery and start the bike and rev it a few times. Look for voltage spikes up to 17 volts. When the stator or Voltage regulator go bad the first symptom is usually a blown headlight. Doesn't cost anything to check. | ||

My headlight bulbs were fine by the way and I run one of those kuryakin things on my dash. Didn't see any sort of voltage dickery from that. Perhaps it could be faster than my little meter could display, I suppose..... Ran great this morning after the much-deferred maintenance was done over this weekend. Spark plugs should be replaced every 10,000 miles or 38,000 miles. (Whichever comes first!) I also cleaned the throttlebody and idle motor servo thing. | ||

Popped the 10A fuse to headlights, taillight and turn signals last fall. Put in a new 10A and hav been good for the last 4,000 miles. No idea what happened. I did run Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods that morning, hard. Including multiple suspension bottom outs, so that may have possibly pinched something. Running HID headlights and the popped fuse did not stop the bike. Maybe the police ECMim running doesn't check that circuit. Stumped, but glad she is running. |
