I see that your post count is pretty low. If you read Dyna's posts for awhile you will realize he was just making a joke, a play on words. You said the techs will "do me right now". You probably meant to say something like, "the techs do right by me". Dyna just made a joke out of it, no big deal.

Oh, I almost forgot. St. Paul HD/Buell is pretty good. I took my M2 there last year for the 10K mile service. They treated me very well. My bike ran practically better than new when I picked it up. They did a good job. |

In AZ-
Chandler Harley-Davidson has treated me well this past year. Service and parts... didn't seem to matter if I owned a Harley or a Buell, prompt, courteous and professional!

Tod, nope no brawling for me. Dont need that crap. Havent bitched or complained about my bike in a long time & really dont need others to open old wounds up.
And Curt, its not just "2 buddies" here. I have also met & ridden with a large number of folks here...M2me, Court, Blake, Bomber, CJ, Crusty, etc etc & consider them friends. This website is a little more personal to some of us. |

I'm sure I reacted poorly to the axle grease "up yours" comment the way anyone could be expected to, "up yours , ditto." But then I brought it back to bikes. Someone mentioned research and facts, who has seen the numbers on the defects and lemons from Buell? Is it higher than other factories? If it is comparable then we are down to the human error factor, which is totally random and unpredictable. Those factors in Dyna's bike include the Rider, the factory assembler and the techs who worked on it. I still have a hard time believing a good mechanic can rebuild a motor 7 or 8 times and still not make it run. This is not rocket science. I know Wes from Cyclerama, he worked on a bike of mine from the 80's. I grew up in St. Pete. He seems to have his X1's running well. Is everyone out there with an X1 convinced it was a poor bike? |

I have found the X1 to be a very reliable bike. I have a 2001 with 30000+ miles it has been in the shop less than my sons 2004 XB12R |

Time for you to do some actual research now. You just made a statement that I've quoted just now. So now you get to talk to the person and people and get "the rest of the story". Clean your ears out real well before you do though, you'll be certain to want to hear all that might be said if what could be said is said upon your asking.
No need to reply publically with what you learn, many of us already know the story. But as they say, hear say is not accurate information, so go to the source and get the strait scoop.
As they say, there is more to the story than what your words would have someone believe, much more. |

Nothing but praise for Flint River H-D Buell of Albany Ga. Family owned and run. I've bought 3 bikes from them over the last 4 years, all services done there, no problems just praise. 100 miles from my driveway to their door, only 38 to Dothan, not to badmouth but I picked the best for me. Mike |

Curt -- I'm bowing out of your part of the conversation -- I'll not offer any observations on our legal system (although goodness knows it's a tempting target), as I am pretty uninterested in that as a conversational topic --
Your initial reaction to some posts was perfectly understandable, given that you know few, if any of the folks involved -- understandable, but not reflecting reality
as for it being possible to rebuild an engire so that it will work properly, you're 100%, dead nuts on target -- anything the hand of man built can be re-built, and better . . . . the question is, in this particular case, was it?
again, in this particular case, the answer is no.
possilbe reasons for this are legion, and manifold -- not enough time spent on the project, not enough time spent on the diagnosis of the root cause problem, not enough $$ spent on the required parts, poorly trained technician, rushed technician, phase of the moon . . . I do not know the cause(s) in this case . . .
there have been a fair number of failed X1s (engines grenading, mysterious electrcal failures), and a fair number of X1s that do yoemanlike duty every day . . . it IS curious, and I agree that it would be interesting to see the failure rates on tuber Buells to compare them to other brands . . . my anecdotal experience tells me that the rates are a little higher . . .
all this data, of course, matters not a whit if you've had your bike blow up on ya . . . . I know I would tend to get slightly, er, wrought
On thread --
Uke's is good for parts (if you can offer the parts guys some guidance), and does tire changes promptly and for a fair price (the limit of my experience with them -- they spported the 20th hugely, and hold B'Trax and Track Days (woo hoo)
Illinois HD/Buell (in Berwyn {Chicago}) is great with parts, advice, help, non-fringed gear and accessories, and also do tire changes promtply and for a fair price |

Positively true, a lot of us know each other and are used to each other's personalities and it is more personal, certainly true for me.
Dyna hasn't complained in a long while about his bike, and has moved on, no need to keep bringing it up. Personally if it had happened to me I'd have harsh feelings about it too, any of us would.
Seems like to me you believe that ANYTIME something like that happens it's the all the owner's fault, that's simply not true.
If you live long enough something like that, sometime will happen to you in your lifetime, whether it's a bike, car, whatever, sometime you'll have a situation that SUCKS and is beyond your control !! To believe otherwise is naive !!
Me, I'm glad it didn't happen to me with my bike, (Yet, knock on wood!) but am sympathetic to Dyna's situation and hope when something like that happens to me, others will be more understanding !!
We've all either been there once, or will be, life's not perfect !

I'd like to recommend Good ole Dudley Perkins!
Mike their Buell Tech (still looking for racing sponsors - his bike is totally trick/custom tube Framer) really knows his stuff and the rest are a pretty good bunch. Irish is a great customer service Mngr. (though most of us rather talk to Clare - she's a heart breaker - lol), and the parts guys - especially Garrett really have their shit together - they have put up with 100s of phone calls from me cross referencing parts and sources. The times -this past couple years - I've made use of their services they have always been considerate of what I wanted done and have come along way in improving their attitude towards Buells - besides - if you want to see some of the most unique steel - HD and Japanese - you need look no further than the employee parking lot - A streetfighter Dyna (lol - you read right) parked by a totally stripped Ninja StreetFighter by a street custom KLR, by a beautiful hog, by a tricked out Duc, by an S3T - you get the idea - my bike feels good every time I park there to go get a part - lol - these guys are all about riding, and have come a long ways - of course prices are not to be believed, but then we do hang in expensive territory - lol
