Hello! New Blast owner and I had a quick question regarding EZBlast's Airbox mod. Should I be chopping out the yellow or red areas highlighted in the below picture?

Yes on the red. On the yellow - only if you are not using the Outerwears.com Blast stack filter on the stack. If you are using that - recommended, then you would not use the K&N filter - which would be money saved and better breathing via the outerwears filter. The scoop protects the Outerwear filter which is connected to the stack via a large 3" hose clamp, and will last practically forever, with periodic cleaning aka rinsing off in sink. EZ |

Thanks for the help, ez! Happen to have a part number or link to that outerwear filter? |

The part 12-1267-01 Black doesn't seem to exist anymore, but here's a link to all filters that have a 3 inch base (assuming that's what I need) http://outerwears.com/search2.asp?pDIA1Base=3&pDIA 2Top=%25&pHeight=%25&shape=Round&posted=1 Will any work? Or should I buy one in particular? |

Just heard from a sales representative that I emailed and this is the response: "For some reason this part 12-1267-01 is not available on our website. However, when you get a moment please contact us 1-800-967-3450 and we can take the order over the phone." So, I'll be ordering two once I get home from work! One final question I have is where does this filter go? I'm assuming the inside of the airbox where the existing filter sits, but this is a lot smaller so the clamp is need. I could also see it going on the outside if you chop off the air scoop so that a lip is available for an air filter and clamp. Thanks in advance, Kenny |

FYI if you use the wrong "filter" YOU WILL have problems. |

Sorry, this is my first bike and I'm not too mechanically savvy but can learn quick on the fly. I ordered the outerwears.com part that EZ has listed in other posts and the newbie FAQ. Am I not on the right track? Is this not a 'filter?' |

That was just a warning so others don't assume that if it looks the same, it is. The wrong Outerwears filter will cause running issues. A nylon screen wont filter as well the large stock filter, or thats what stock would be! The stock filter doesn't restrict airflow (within the parameters of this discussion-it does, but bear with me). A filter attached directly over the carb mouth cuts down breathing to just the holes in the filter. It's about the same as putting a cover over the carb mouth and drilling a few holes in it. That's why stock uses large filters and small filters can restrict air flow. Bigger is better. But that's why if you use the wrong Outwears filter it restricts airflow and causes problems. If that makes sense?! |

Got it - clearly elaborated! After reading through other threads, it looks like my first assumption was correct in the placement of the outerwears.com filter. I'll be picking up a dremmel from a friend this weekend and will get to it! I'll post pics after since I've had issues finding any for this mod! Hopefully it will help other blast owners in the future. |

Yes - you have to call them to order it - is not on their sight. LOL - there are not a lot of Blasts out there - it started as a custom - it was so rare, now the price is now a regular price, but not famous enough to be on their site. EZ |

Quick update: I used a dremmel and various grades of sandpaper to remove the main interior wall on the airbox and have received my outerwears filters. I'll take a few pics tonight and post them! I'm also going to re-jet my carb to 45/170 (its probably still the 2000 stock jetting), put in an iridium spark plug, and change the oil/filter out. Too bad for the cold weather this weekend, but I'll be freshly thumping again next week. |

So I downloaded a air splitter template from buellridersonline and I was wondering if it would be ok if i mounted this (I would have to shorten it up a little, I think) to the stock carb venturi ring as opposed to an aftermarket stack? |

I don't see why that wouldn't be okay. I don't use one, but there shouldn't be any difference between an aftermarket stack and stock Venturi in basic function. |

Thanks, geraheaderiko! I still owe some photos, I got overwhelmed with work and other hobbies last night. The intake splitter will be something I'll work on in the near future, along with drilling out the stock exhaust. |
