From what I can see, the beveled tip on the factory Kent Moore tool appears to be 45 degrees. Other tools look similar.

I recently ran across a close-up picture of the notch in the crank, which appears to be closer to 60 degrees.

Possibly it is not entirely critical for the surfaces to share dimensions, but I would think the tool tip should match the crank notch, in the same way a conical automotive lug bolt matches the wheel.

Just wondering if someone out there has a crank out of an engine, and could measure the notch angle...

I didn't match the notch angle when I made mine. I just radiused the end to match the rod diameter. Worked fine for me to change out the sprag clutch. Just FYI.

The included angle is 90 degrees.

When you say "included angle" are you referring to the angle of the bevel on the tip of the tool?

Based on the picture, the notch in the crank is clearly not 90 (45) degrees.

I just used the Kent-Moore tool. While it worked, I wished the handle would have been longer. I ran into issues with the HMF muffler being in the way at the end of the tool. If the handle had been longer, it would have been easier to screw in by hand and not with a ratchet... Just a cheap two cents worth...

Cbi, Yes the notch is 90 degrees. 45 degrees bevel on the tool is correct. I have both the Rotax crank drawing and the Kent Moore tool.

Stevel, thanks for the info confirmation!

That picture is really, really deceiving. I hope you understand my my initial skepticism.

Zachp, thanks for the drawing as well. I will pass this on to my machinist!
