Hi Buellies. New to this group and happy to be a part of a local one. I've been getting good advice on Buell XB.com.... I have an 06 1200 XBr firebolt that I bought last fall knowing it had some issues. The main symptom that it has sounds like a familiar one reading other posts. It cuts out at 4000 rpm. So far I have replaced the TPS then reset it. Replaced the o2 sensor on the header, replaced the fan that was bad, replaced the fairly new spark plugs with new correct ones. replaced plug wires and air cleaner. Battery connections are tight. After all this I took it out for a test ride last night and same symptoms were there after a while. Including some cool back fire shots I have ECMspy and am new at it so I'm going to hook-up and look for something. Any suggestions? Thanks for reading. |

Hey welcome here! Are the sparkplugs at the correct gap? Back fire could be intake or exhaust leak. Test the manifold for leaking gaskets. |

Hi. Yes, I gaped them per the specs in the owners manual. I'm planning on checking for exhaust leaks and been working on cleaning some ground connections around the bike. Some say it could be head temperature sensor but there are no trouble codes when I hook up to ECM spy. thanks for responding! |

Could be crank position sensor, especially if it keeps getting worse. The backfires are your most relevant symptom of that. You won't be able to diagnose it with ECM spy. You can look for your tach needle doing the funky chicken dance while you are having your problem, or better put an oscillascope on it. It doesn't need to be a good scope, a $80 DSO Nano does just fine. Or put in a new new sensor, and if it doesn't fix it, you now have a hot spare to carry with you under the seat. It isn't uncommon for them to break, and it would be an easy side of the road repair if it did and you had a spare with you. |

Thanks, Reepicheep. Seems like the replacement option would be a good idea. Just need to find one online. Does anyone know where I could order one? 2006 1200 XBR (Message edited by opie on March 08, 2016) |
