Is it a given that a stock XB12 is going to experience some "typical" Harley-style oil leakage? Even if it has been 100% maintained as outlined in the owners manual? I'm asking because I just took delivery a new XB12R and I've already had several of my local "experts" tell me to expect to see some oil seepage after I've gotten the engine broken in and done the initial oil change. I'm wondering if they just believe this due to HD's reputation or if there really is a technical reason why the XB12 engine would weep. thanks! WYD | ||

I got a little seepage from the oil cooler lines. That's it. I wiped them off, tightened them a little... No more. | ||

the seepage at the oil cooler lines when the bike is new, is assembly fluids, like m1 said wipe off and don't worry | ||

The only oil leakage I had was a bad rockerbox gasket. It was swapped out under warrenty and every oil change since has been measured at empty and is within milliletres of what I put in. No signs of oil leakage at all anywhere at 4500 miles. I also tend to cruise at 80-90 and am a bit hamfisted on the throttle. | ||

My xb9s had a the typical new oil lines leaks... Just tighten em up!... I've got 7000Mi on mine and it has never leaked or burned a drop since.. Most impressive... PS I'm running Mobil 1...... | ||

15,000 miles, no leaks. NO MOTOR SHOULD LEAK OIL, PERIOD. Harleys and their 'marking their territory'. -=snort=- Just an excuse for a poorly manufactured and assembled engine. | ||

My XB12R had the typical weeping around the oil cooler lines, slight weeping around the timing plug, and developed a base gasket leak at 4k miles. Mike L. '04 XB12R | ||

My '01 Sportster has never leaked a drop. My last three Harleys before this one never leaked oil. My new XB doesn't leak either.  People that tell those "harley " stories have usually never even owned one. Don't even give it a thought! | ||

Slight seepage from the oil cooler lines like the others but a twist and I was all set. They even told me to come right up and they would pull a mechanic to look at it. | ||

I'm getting some spotting, no leaks, from both side engine covers on top. Should I worry about this? or just keep cleaning it off when I wash my bike every week. It always washes clean, then re-appears. | ||

I have the cooler line seepage as well... At first, both fittings had a coating on them, and I wiped it off and tightened the fittings a bit. It came back, so when it was in for the 1k service, I had the dealer look at it. They tightened them some more, and now the front line is staying clean, but the back one is still seeping. I'll put a wrench to it again and see if it helps. I just don't want to overtighten it and cause more problems... | ||

I too am noticing a coating on the cooler line fittings. I've wiped them clean and checked them for tightness but they seem to be connected pretty well. I don't think they could be tightened any more without damaging them. So far, that's the only seepage I've seen but then again, my 12R only has 70 miles on it so far. :-( | ||
