Pardon the stupid question but is the White Lightning a special model or is it simply a White Lightning? Also, is there a history of the different models and modifications that were made year after year to each model. JT |

Depends if you are talking about the S1, or X1, version. The S1 has bigger tubing going to the front tie bar, a bigger tank, Thunderstorm heads, a 2-1/2' collector and muffler etc. Initially it only came out with a white frame and bodywork, but later in '98 it was offered in various colour schemes, the best being the 'hard to find' Molten Orange bodywork on a Nuclear Blue frame As far as I know, the X1 only differed in that it was all white, and had a blue header. |

Correct me if I'm mistaken(Josh, DAve) but the lowest production model in the 'S1 White Lightning' run was the '98 S1WL in Silver body work over the Nuclear Blue frame and wheels. Again, correct my memory if needed, but the distinction between 'Lightning' and 'White Lightning' is the T-Storm heads introduced for the '98 model year. With the increased head flow exhaust header diameter increased. Actually, there were many changes during the 96-98 model years, especially with the Lightning models including the S3's and M2's. I remember reading a fairly good synopsis in the Knowledge Vault, probably worth looking for if you're ready. |

Andy, it's taken me a while, but I've just noticed that there's also a bike in that pic I've got the turbo off mine at the moment. It's running a strong NRHS 1250 engine with some of Cycle-Rama's trick headwork, so I'm planning on enjoying that config until after this summer, then playing more with the turbo again. No, there's very little of the original bike left. At a quick glance I'd say the frame, forks (although resprung), switchgear and front guard would be the only original and/or unmodified parts left on it. |

Another S1 question.... What is the "technical" abbreviation for the 1998 White Lightning? Here's my take: Original Ice White Pearl: S1WL All others: ???? Does it really matter? Not in the big scheme of life. I'm just curious. |

hay there is nothing wrong with the 2002 X-1WL, true there are no Technical advantages like the origonal white lighting, even though i think they should have installed the Race Kit, with the race header coated Blue, but that is my 2 cents worth... and 17000 miles later i love my X-1WL |

Jet Hot does a PERFECT match for the stock blue found on the X1W headers and it's a lot more durable than the stock coating. |

Well yeah... but i was just saying that i wish the bike came with the race kit, and the race header pre-installed with the blue coating on it.. that way the X-1WL would stand out away fromt he X-1's like the origonal S-1W did.. ya know... |

It's alive!!!!! Finished the last few bolts last night. I took her for a shake down and didn't see any problems except I forgot to turn the petcock to "on". What a difference compared to my S3T! Remove all that weight up front and these things get even more wheelie happy Developed a minor problem today. The clutch inspection cover is leaking primary fluid. I'll have to gimp her home and fix that tonight. At least it's an easy fix . Look for some pictures tomorrow!!! |

No pics of Marilyn today It was pissing rain last night on my way home from work. Then to make matters worse, I bought the wrong length allen bolts to replace the stock TROX in the clutch cover. Maybe I'll have more luck tonight. |

had a tuber for about 3 years. it started after this geezer gave me a go on his black buell with a race kit an carbon wheels. only met him the one night. got chatin at a bike meet at sherburn, north yorks. The guy had just come back from his hols on the bike. the belly pan was hangin off cos he'd run into some traffic cones when he fell asleep. he let me take it for a spin. Wot a piece of kit. I was in love. had a friend that was a bike dealer, mentioned it to him,he had seen a buell a few days before. 3 days later its out side the door. s1w with fat swingin arm. Its still my baby. have done a few euro trips on her. Switzerland. and Hamburg harley aniversery bash. going for a long weekend over in Holland. I'll be gettin the ferry from hull.
