I haven't rode since before Christmas, so I found an opportunity today to go out and play. I had my TC on level 6, which I found to be too low to loft the front tire in 1st under power. Me, being the chooser of my destiny, decided to pull off the road onto a side street and change the settings. I pulled around the corner, rolled in the throttle, and nearly high sided the beast. Were it not for the TC, I think things would've went south for me. There was a nice scrub and a faint hint of a slick substance all over the tire, and I'm hoping it came from the road vs. the bike. About a half hour later, I decide to drop Erik's hammer. 1st gear is all about throttle control, then a smooth shift to 2nd to keep the front from bouncing, finally a quicker shift into third to clean the bugs off of my faceshield. When I hit third gear, about a second into the power- there it was. SLIPPAGE. I backed down and tried again, to the same result. I'm using AMSOIL 20W-50, and I recently pulled the clutch plates to inspect the metal orientation. One plate was backwards. I corrected the problem, but wouldn't think it would cause any problems. My current weight is 260 lbs with gear. Any input on the slipppage? Should I get stiffer springs? I don't struggle with clutch pull now.... and I don't think a lighter rider would have any problems. And let's be honest- Beer tastes good, and I really don't want to lose weight quite yet. |

Do you have the stock clutch springs and slave cylinder installed or the reduced effort kit installed with the lighter springs? How many miles on the bike/clutch? |

1800 miles, unsure on the reduced effort. I never knew the original owner |

I should probably mention that I was getting heavy with some twisties and rapping away at gear changes up and down immediately prior to the slippage |

My RX slips in 6th with the light pull clutch springs. I have a couple of sets of the Barnett springs to install in both bikes though. |

All SX shipped from factory with reduced clutch pull kit from what I understand. |

The progression of clutch spring stiffness, from lightest to softest: 1125 springs 1190 RX/SX reduced effort springs 1190 RX/SX original springs Barnett springs SX models did NOT all ship with reduced effort springs. The Barnett springs are pretty stiff, but will certainly increase clamp load on the clutch. |

Not many people running shorty levers to begin with and you can get ASV levers for about $200 a set for the C5 and $150 for the F3. I have these installed. BRC511-SK and CRC511-SK Pull on the clutch lever with stock springs is sometimes tiring so I can't imagine what it would be like with Barnett springs. |

The original RX springs seem to be the same as the "race" springs EBR used to sell online. Very stiff. Snack's list is accurate with 1125 being softest and Barnetts being the stiffest/hardest pull. I have Pazzo shorties on Loretta, my 1125R, from Jim Dugger, don't think I'd like them on the stiffer springs. Guess I'll see if she slips after the 1190 conversion. Z |

Zac, the original RX springs are not as stiff as the race springs that EBR sold on their web store. The race springs are identical to the Barnett springs. *edit** Whoops, just noticed that my previous post should have read as follows: The progression of clutch spring stiffness, from lightest to stiffest: 1125 springs 1190 RX/SX reduced effort springs 1190 RX/SX original springs Barnett springs (Message edited by snacktoast on January 22, 2016) |

Cool I've not seen the Barnetts but the other 3 yes. That's good, if Loretta's clutch slips, try RX springs first... |

I was told by an EBR employee/Tech by phone, to NOT use the light springs "if you use the bike like it's supposed to be used". This was before I bought my RX. My first clutch squeeze impression..."a little heavy, but no big deal". I agreed with the EBR Tech. 92xx miles since March 2015 and not regretting that decision at all. Mike |
