HELP!! NEED CARILLO RODS FOR XB9!!

Daaaang near an emergency!!

We have our race motor down at Bartels for case boring and crank balancing and just found out today we have the WRONG Carillo rods!! eek Apparently Carillo sent us the XB12 rod set, NOT the XB9. They do not have any XB9 rods in stock so we need to find some SOMEWHERE - and in a hurry!

We have to get the bike built and can't proceed with the case boring and crank balancing until we get the right connecting rods.

Carillo is running 2-3 months right now so we are appealing to anybody who MIGHT know of a source for Carillo rods for the XB9 - we need 7.270 inch center-to-center!! NOT the rods for the 1200 motor!! (we are bored to 1200 but have short-stroke of the stock XB9 motor)

This is dang near an emergency as we are committed to race the WERA 6-hour in Fontana in June with a tune-up race at Willow Springs -- and there's just no freaking way we'll survive on the stock rods!! (maybe I can set the rev limit down to 7,000!)

Looking for any inspiration anybody can offer.

WE're going to call S&S tomorrow. Second choice but better than stock.

HELL(P)!!

Mike,

I called Henry yesterday. We're kinda at the mercy of what's out floating in dealer channels.

Looking at S&S Supreme, and yeah, Hals is gonna be called this AM (they know the bike)

I would just hate to beat 115 HP outta the bike at the rear wheel, enter a 6-hour race and grenade the motor because of iffy rod selection

The 7.113 length is generally available (maybe it's an 883 motor rod length??) but the 7.270 is gonna be tough.

I don't know if Hoban's would have anything on the shelf that they could ship out, might be worth a try though.

You're kind of out of the norm at most dealerships on this request, but you know that already.

3.1 Rods are not to be had at this point here or just about anywhere to my knowledge. We have had ours magna-fluxed and shot peened. We are actually using the longer rod (XB9) in a little different configuration with a heavily modified stroke and flywheel assembly.

Carillo has the 12 rods or the same as the X1, but you would need to run a different roller set-up than the XB12. Regardless, if our new experimental lower end works, we may be manufacturing some XB9 rods to work with our application. That is about all I can say at this point...

Best of luck in your quest and if you find some trick rods at a reasonable $$$, let me know

We are sticking with the stock rods and bottom end for now (lightened and balanced) We'll see what's left after 6-hr race.

Bike is basically being built to meet Willow Springs middleweight twins rules - 1200 Buell v. 750 Ducks. The WERA 6-hr is just a fun thing.

Is Hoban going to be racing at F-USA in Vegas this September? Duga insisted we at least race there this year - obviously we're not running the series BUT since we're sponsored by our BRAG club and since that weekend is our normal BRAG ride weekend, why not have the club ride to Vegas and watch 2 of us race??

If we don't totally do something stooopid this year, we'll be more serious in 05 (though I'll not likely be racing outside of Club racing any longer) - I say as I'm soaking a foot in hot water trying to re-absorb a seroma in my right foot that just came back since my Dec crash in practice!! (I think I'm out of warranty)

Regardless, lets stay in touch. If Hoban Bros is coming up with a more durable bottom end/rod combo - I'm all ears. We are going to have to spin the motor faster. For now, we'll be keeping the rev limit set at 7500.

We will be in Las Vegas with our ever popular "West Coast Team Manager" Timbo! Which , by the way Tim, have you noticed that the date actually changed by 1 week earlier?? Let me know if that will be a problem. We have not raced at Las Vegas since the AMA Sportster days and we are looking forward to it!

Well - at least my bike will be there. Depending on who/what/if... if my times don't start improving and if Bartels doesn't run a bike there, I may let Pinson and Finnerty ride it there (if I haven't grenaded it in WSMC club racing before then!)

...and the date change... dare I make yet another disrespectful remark about NA$$CAR?

The Vegas F-USA weekend WAS our club ride weekend. Now at least we have time to re-notify everybody.

Well - race bike is happy. WE're sticking with stock rods, lightening and balancing the crank but keeping the redline at 7500 (for now) Since it's tossing lighter pistons around, the rod-end and crank stresses should be Okey dokey.

That'll get us on the road in plenty of time for the Pahrump track day and then for the 6-hour in Fon-Tucky!
