I have just fitted an S&S Stealth air filter kit to my 98 M2 and it stalls when over about 2500 rpm. I have put a kit through the standard CV carby and adjusted the float as specified in the manual. if I rev and release quickly it will go to higher revs and backfires when revs are coming back down. Please help, I am hanging out to get back on the road. |

The going to higher rpm when releasing the trottle and backfiring is probably a intake air/vacuüm leak. That could also the stalling at higher rpm. Does it backfire through the carb? Have had this kind of thing with a non buell bike and it was doing the same because of worn out carb and old rubbers and gaskets. |

cheers for the reply, I have checked for leaks and there doesn't seem to be any. It doesn't backfire through the carb. I have put a new kit through the carb so rubbers should be fine. I have just re-adjusted the float and about to put it back together. I will let you know how it goes. |

Okay ,so back fire through exhaust is unburned fuel or a exhaust leak or it's the construction of the muffler. If there is no intake leak it could also a sign of not enough fuel at higher rpm's |

Does 98 have a VOES? If so maybe it is unhooked, unplugged, or leaking. |

Good point Jim2! That could explain the stalling at higher rpm. What i know is that all carbed tube frame buells have a voes. |

Did you accidentally block of the carb vent hole? |

What kit in carb, and what jet sizes? And did you make sure the vacuum diaphragm went in correctly--- try raising slide by hand and it should return a a nice measured pace if there is no vacuum leak. |

Maybe the needle jet is missing or upside down. That would definitely screw up the mixture at around 2500rpm when the needle starts to come online. It can fall out when when main jet is removed. http://www.cv-performance.com/harley-cv-carburetor -tuning-issues/ |
