I know a couple of you have taken this plunge. How'd they work? Any issues? A local MC Dealership has them here for $175. Should I be able to do better? Water resisitant? How hard to remove to take into the room on a trip?

Thanks for the feedback.

I fitted a pair of Oxford Sports expanders for a trip to France. You need to retain your pillion footrest mounts to take the front lower straps and also remove your pillion cover. The bags fit with a strap under the seat and two straps over. There are also two lots of tensioning straps over the top to help balance the weight and two more straps to the number-plate bracket. Its hard to avoid bending the rubber rear indicator stalks but a couple of pre-trip fits at home should help find a 'sit' that avoids this. For that reason they come off easily (Depending on how wet and cold your fingers are) but take a little time to put back on in the morning (With a hangover)
They are very well made and come with lots of useful bits and doodads such as shoulderstraps and expand to enormous size to fit the extra wine bottles that you have to buy at Calais before they'll let you out of France. They are showerproof but not waterproof but do have 'shower cap' covers which work. I'd always pack everything in plastic binbags in any case.
It is a good idea to get some of the rubber mesh 'blanket ' to protect the bike from rubbing as the straps are tough (They actually got through the coating on the passenger peg mounts)
Watch out for the width until you get used to it.
I put the preload up a notch, too.
The Sports expanders are sloped at the bottom to clear exhausts on conventional bikes and if capacity is an issue you may wish to look at other bags with flatter lower edges.
Oxford also do Humpback and Firsttimer bags that are differently shaped or have less capacity. As always you pays your money and takes your choice.

2004-model bags are slightly different and more stylish, but the older type, which is what are cheaper at the moment are almost as good.

I know all this because I use what I sell, but I hope that since the shipping costs from uk make US sales a waste of effort on high-weight items I will be forgiven for this lapse in Badweb etiquette.

Martin you gave info on the product, you didn't post a link or try to sell them to him directly so no ettiquette was breached : D

I have the TourMaster Cortech saddle, tail and 3 piece tank bags for my XB12. if you check the archives there was a thread on saddlebags which has a pic of my saddlebags in place. That pic is on my deskbox which is down so I can't repost it.
