There's already topic on that but it's been archived: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/236484.html My muffler is very close to the pulley, like 1mm from it. I'm posting a picture here, maybe someone has a similar situation and can tell me whether or not I can ride like this?  There is a very tiny scratch under the pulley (not visible here). It would suggest the pulley does actually touch the muffler *from time to time*. Although I don't know if it wasn't there earlier as the can was probably taken off of a crashed bike. I don't want to dent the muffler because it's polished stainless steel, looks kind of cool and the dent would be very visible. But if there's a risk of damaging the pulley I have to do something. I will probably replace the whole outlet with a smaller diameter. | ||

Except for heat expansion, and assuming the bearing in the pulley is not failing. The dimension between the pulley and the muffler should not change, significantly, as they are both solidly mounted to the engine. If it was mine, I'd ride it as is. If it really bothers you the muffler tip could be relieved with a ball peen hammer. | ||

You've got a gift of persuasion guys! I see ball-peening is the approved solution here on BadWeb  Let me just ride for a while and see how the scratch is doing. Maybe it won't get worse. (Message edited by Hunger on December 19, 2015) | ||

I had the same issue with the Buell Pro-Series muffler. A shim between the half-moon mount and muffler fixed the problem. | ||

What shim did you use? I though of putting stripes of felt or rubber but it can burn from heat. Maybe muffler wool or just pieces of metal? | ||

Two shims behind the pulley bracket could also work! | ||

If you're going to shim anything shim the muffler. Shimming the pulley could cause your belt to ware faster or put uneven pressure across the belt. | ||

No im not kidding! But best solution is to let it be so it grinds off and fixes itself! | ||

Loosen and rehang the exhaust. Shimming the pulley is not the path is go. 651lance is spur on. DAve | ||

I had to dent my pro exhaust, just laid a drift punch sideways across where they were close and hit it with a hammer a few times. Worked great |
