Looking to do some engine work on my X1 this winter. Going with a set of ported Xb heads, cams, 1250 kit?, and Dyno tune. I have talked to NRHS, Hammer, and a local place near me called JET. They are a very reputable in the local harley and buell community. I actually went to college with the owners son who races buells. Anyways... I was talking with them and they recommend not going to a 1250 kit. They say the 1250 kits distort. They recommend doing just headwork, cams, and pistons and said with tuning should make over 105hp... I know a lot of people run 1250 kits. Is this really an issue now a days or was it only an issue with older 1250 kits and they are still thinking old school? Should I go the 1250 route or just stick to OEM XB jugs with custom pistons? |

I don't know what kits they are thinking of, unless they are thinking about Millenium Nik-A-Sil lined aluminum cylinders or the old Axtell Nik-A-Sil aluminum kits. The NRHS and Hammer kits use iron-lined aluminum cylinders with much thicker liners than OEM cylinders, which not only distort much less than stock, but the liners also stay in place much better than OEM cylinders. I have seen the OEM iron liners shift and split from the aluminum. The way the liner is designed in the NRHS/Hammer cylinders, it is nearly impossible to separate. |

No problem . Yeah the distortion difference was quite noticeable when honing cylinders. NRHS cylinders seldom had more than .0005" difference in bore with torque plates removed, whereas stock cylinders were usually .0005-.001". Stock Evo cylinders were the worst, having up to .0015" difference with torque plates removed. I never saw more than .00025" difference in Axtell's cast iron cylinders. You could probably get away with honing them untorqued and still be safe. |

You may want to consider a lower handlebar setup and a better rear shock. A setup like that will through you back HARD! |

Marc already has a Penske shock and lower handlebars and suspension, so he's set up perfectly to be ready for the power increase . |

The power is definitely acheivable. My previous Uly build was pretty moderate, and made 103.51 RWHP with the stock exhaust, on a pretty conservative dyno. Heads were between Stage 2&3, 1250 kit with 10* pistons, NRHS CAT3 (.540 lift) cams. CCP was only 150 psi. Stock the bike made 75.92 RWHP. The 103.50 run was the built motor with a stainless Drummer slip on. The bike was tuned for the Drummer on both of the latter runs, I just hotswapped the stock muffler on and re-ran the bike while still on the dyno. The new build I'm still sorting has slightly different heads, CCP over 200 PSI, and NRHS CAT4 (.590 lift) cams. It should perform "a bit" better than the previous build . |

Can't tell from the description, which muffler has the power dip at 70 mph? |

Stock muffler, probably from the Drummer tune. |

75.92 RWHP stock, 103.51 RWHP after that build. Torque wasn't measured on those runs because I couldn't reach the spark plug wire to connect the lead (frame in the way). Ignore the torque index, look at the power index on the other side. Notice the legend up top- the 75.92 RWHP was measured back in March. (Message edited by phelan on December 25, 2015) |

Thanks! Remember, mine is an XB, with the box frame covering most of the top end. I could actually just reach the wires with the left side scoop removed but they are so short that the boots got in the way, so there wasn't enough open wire to clamp with limited range of motion. |
