I've been looking for a VP9 for a while. I'm always a day late...

I sold my Canik this weekend... I DID end up with a Walther PPQ this weekend. Really great trigger. It's probably the best striker fired pistol I've ever shot. Plus, the more I like the European magazine releases, the more I like them.

Interesting and thought provoking link, Ducbsa.

The PPQ is nice, and the paddles are good. A lot of folks get really hung up over that. I appreciate a gun that works great out of the box. I like the PPQ but love the HK.

All you 50 cal rifle owners beware, the NY Times has you in their sights; they either think a bolt action gun was covered by the Assault Rifle ban or they are lying to their gullible readers.

The NYT is a propaganda machine these days. I would expect no less. Eventually people will realize the uselessness and frivolity of such ideas.

I miss my .50...but it had little to no practical value and was a pain to transport. Maybe if I can get one of these fancy takedown jobbers:

I hit that "Which handgun are you" bait.

Predictable.

I can't wait to take the VP home. I haven't met an HK pistol I don't like. Looking like it's gonna be a birthday present to myself.

Thumper, you keeping the PPQ and HK when you get it?

I had someone tell me that the PPQ and VP9 were the same gun. They are certainly similar, but they are made quite differently and have a distinctive feel. They're certainly both great guns, but calling them the same is a real stretch.

I noticed the similarity and wondered if it was 'platform sharing'. I plan on keeping both.

I still kick myself for selling the HK USP. That was a large gun and completely impractical for CCW, but a great duty gun (a friend who's a policemanofficer has it now) and great shooter all around.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/2015/12/4/atf-says-we apons-used-in-san-bernardino-shooting-were-illegal -in-california

I haven't been paying much attention to the misinformation being spread about the San B Islamist terrorist attack, but I was curious about the legal status of the weapons used.

As I suspected, they were, in fact, not just Illegal in The People's Republic of California, but at least one was modified into a machine gun. Illegal under several Federal laws.

So we have moderates telling us that we should be reasonable and accept rational limits on our civil rights...

Based on lies.

This isn't going to end well.

Those people have no idea what they're talking about. Removing a bullet button doesn't magically make a rifle more powerful, nor does using a different size magazine. A standard capacity AR-15 magazine is 30 rds.

Everything is illegal in California.

Attempted to make full auto does not a full auto make. Acquiring the parts is easy. Modifying a lower to work for it is a bit more difficult. Tuning the gun can also be tricky, as most commercial guns have oversized gas ports allowing the use of underpowered ammunition.

News outlets have been saying that removing the bullet button makes a machine gun, so I'd take it all with a grain of salt.

Either way an untrained person with an assault rifle isn't much more of a threat than with a semi-automatic. It really doesn't have a lot of utility in a rifle.

The most shocking thing is that one of the shooters was a natural born US citizen. That's been a trend lately.

It'll be his for Christmas.

He wanted a 22-250 but is getting a .223. As long as I'm buying his ammo it's gonna be a .223, though his choice of a 22-250 is surprisingly well informed for such a young man. He could have had an AR, but wanted a bolt gun, and I respect that.

He also wanted a $100 laminate stock, but that will have to wait. It's a T/C Venture. A very underrated gun for the performance. It is rather bland in appearance. I think the stock would have jazzed it up some.

"Only one-tenth of one percent of the 47,000 persons on the no-fly lists are Americans, and it’s clear that the policymakers in the White House, to put it politely, don’t know what they’re talking about."

"James Comey, the director of the FBI, told Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina at a recent Senate hearing that he was not familiar with how guns were purchased on the Internet, but assumed that a seller just mailed the gun to the customer. In fact, a gun purchased on the Internet cannot by law be mailed directly to the purchaser, but must be sent to a licensed gun dealer who can deliver it to the buyer only after the buyer passes a background investigation conducted by Mr. Comey’s FBI. It’s difficult to understand how and why policymakers can make policy about things they don’t understand, but it’s easy to understand how their policies sometimes make no sense at all."

Comey was US Attorney for Manhattan in 2002-2003. Incredible that he "assumed"!

The kids "hunting gun."

He was practicing with dummy rounds for some time yesterday. He has it down pretty well.

Technically he has the 2nd most powerful gun in the house as my AR-15 rifle has but a 16" barrel....though it'll be a few years before it's actually his.

The wife is happy with her guns as well (Shield 9mm and 22 Compact). In a few days I surprise her with the last one for her birthday (a vintage "baby" Cheifs Special 38spl).

Rick, I'm a big fan of the M&P Shield in 9mm; it's about the perfect "all-around" carry gun, IMO.

Here are a couple of short vids taken at a local range with the 9mm Shield's biggest brother, an M&P 9mm full size (17+1). I'd been out on the bike all day, shooting photos of this and that, and hadn't bothered to eat anything. However, I stopped at a nearby Starbucks about an hour before I got to the range and sucked down a quick grande mocha, so between no food and the double hit of chocolate coffee I was a teeny little bit jittery.

This first vid shows rounds 130-140 of my 150-round session. I don't think this is particularly excellent shooting, but all but one round is pretty much center of its particular mass, and even the flyer would've seriously gotten the BG's attention. This is at 7 yards:

The next vid shows rounds 140-150. I really knuckled down on this volley, and had enough rounds down range in total this afternoon that I felt really dialed in on the sights. Even though this is at a typical fighting distance, it's not really a very realistic representation of a "Quick, save your life!" scenario in that I'm taking a lot of time between shots.

That said, it demonstrates the overall goodness of the M&P platform; this particular pistol is completely stock save for a gentle fluff and buff. The black outer ring is 3" in diameter, the white inner circle is an inch and a half across:

I'm envious of your fleet; thanks for posting up pix. : )

Of all the single stack polymer nines it's my favorite and priced well to boot. For me it's gotta be a 1911. I think she looks forward to shooting the 22 more as she's become a bit recoil shy through the years.

I never bother with "fluff and buff" type stuff as they smooth themselves out with use.

That's putting them where it counts, regardless. I've got guys that gave me a hard time as I'll let rounds fly as quickly as I can from time to time. Anyone can shoot a decent group with a lot of time, but I like to speed it up to practice shooting on the edge of control. In such shooting rounds should still hit their mark, though nobody will be impressed with the group sizes.

I'm going to try to arrange a group shoot with the fam. here soon.

I've had an Interterms Silver Cup chassis 1911 since the early 80s and never felt the need for another pistol.
It was sloppy as hell when I bought it but had a Gunners Mate friend accurize it for me... I love it.
I'm not a big guy so it is too big for a daily carry and since I decided it is time to "daily carry" now I needed something smaller.

Thanks for this thread, my Christmas present to myself was a S&W Shield 9 and a couple extra clips.
Only fired a couple of clips so far but I like this pistol.

I have 3 different off-the-shelf rounds so far, 115gr FMJ, 65r JHP and some Liberty 50gr no-lead hollow(2000fps @ muzzle).
Just saw a post on "the other" thread about PolyCase ARX Ammo... I'm intrigued.

Thanks for the knowledge guys -
Z

Thoughts on the HK P30?

I went in looking for the Stoeger M3000 comp, but they had a used Hk P30 with a threaded barrel and suppressor sights for $550. Considering that I'm looking at the family trust route for a suppressor, this is attractive.

Avoiding sloppiness is one reason I got the VP9. It will save wear and tear on the fancier autos. I intend for it to become my workhorse shooter.

My holster came in and I tried it briefly. It felt odd having such a light gun on the hip.

ZMan, here's a link to a 9mm standard pressure "carry ammo" test from "tnoutdoors9" on YouTube; he produces high-quality, highly informational videos (often with a little humor tossed in for good measure :-), has over 176,000 subscribers, and has tested a lot of different ammo calibers and types, as well as various home and carry defense weapons, over the years. He's a big fan of Speer's Gold Dot in his EDC guns. At the end of the video he has embedded a link to his 9mm "playlist." Hope this is of some value to you.

P30 is an excellent gun...and for $550 suppressor ready a great deal. My favorite DA/SA gun is a CZ.

I don't have much respect for Turkish guns. I'd rather have a Remington or shop for a used Benelli.

We went for a family range trip. I'll post up some reports when I finish them up. Everyone had a good time. The kid did great and the wife did okay. I didn't put as much shooting in as I would've liked, but it wasn't about me.

The wife got her revolver and was not too enthused over it. Disappointing, but hopefully it grows on her.

I also fired my new 642 with predictable results. Despite using +P ammunition it was fun to shoot and accurate. The +P hit low on target. Standard pressure stuff hit to point of aim.

I didn't get much shooting in, but I'd rather the family make the best if it.
