I think I've hit an electrical gremlin that I have not the time nor patience to sort out.

CPS was replaced - bike fired and idled fine. Weather was crap that day so I let it get to fan temp and cut it off. Great, I'll get to it after work week - warm it, change oil etc. then ride.

5 days later. No fire in front jug again. ECMspy showed "CPS Signal 5" in red block. I know I should google harder but a quick search only referred me to pg 22 of ecmspy manual. Couldn't find that.

Tonight I went in to the cluster of connectors fore of the crank pulley. A bit gunked-up from what I expect to be a starter gasket leak. Blasted those with half a can of electric cleaner, aired it out for an hour or so - reconnect everything. --- No combustion in front cylinder.

At this point I'm considering all new connectors and a GOOD cleaning. If that doesn't fix it I think I'll let it become someone else's project.

I don't think this could be a bad VR but now I'm wondering if the old CPS was even bad and maybe it was a short elsewhere.

Perhaps someone that catches this thread would be interested in obtaining an 07 12R for the price of a decent scooter...

Thoughts? Thankful in advance for any input.

I lost the front cylinder fire a while back due to a bad coil. Apparently it had enough after 73,000 miles.

Put it on a rear stand, pull the plugs, unplug the fuel pump, put it in 5th gear.

Watch ecm spy as you rotate the back wheel to see if it is switching between 0 an 5 volts. you might also do this with the starter motor and gears in neutral.

If it all looks good, it may be the coil or one of the coil wires (low or high voltage)

Thanks guys. I put the multi-meter on the coil and everything checked out. Maybe i'll get new wires even though the ones on there now were new a year and a half ago.

I realize if everything is 100% with ignition components on this bike you're gonna have trouble.

Anyone had any luck with non-OEM plug wires? Maybe I'll try that.

I'm just beside myself over the fact that she fired right up after putting the new CPS on and now it's doing the same as before. Any chance that I've got something that is trying to habitually destroy cam sensors?

You could see if you have 5 volts supply to the cps, I'd need to look at the schematics to tell you which pin.

Hang on a sec...

Is there any way that a bad 77 connector could be the culprit here?

It's toast. Gonna hard wire them tomorrow and see what I get. If that does it, I'll run it like that in lieu of a new connector.
