Thanks, I'm looking for a complete set of OEM friction plates. I installed a Barnett clutch pack and it drags. I've tried everything I can think of but have not been able to fix it, so, I'm now to the point where I just want to put a new or lightly used set of OEM friction plates back in and hopefully that'll cure the dragging. |

I had better luck re-using the OEM springs than with the shorter, more stiff Barnett Springs. I also forgot to remove the last steel plate in the basket, during the first reassembly. |

Harry, what do you mean when you say "remove the last steel plate". Do you mean you left the OEM notched first steel plate in by accident and installed the first Barnett steel on top of it? You did install all ten Barnett steels, no? I also chose to reuse the OEM springs. The Barnett springs caused the clutch lever to be very heavy. |

I (re)installed an OEM clutch pack which FINALLY(!) cured the persistent dragging that I experienced with the Barnett clutch pack that I could never alleviate. For information sake, the stack height of the OEM friction plates I installed is 1.240". The stack height of the Barnett friction plates I removed is 1.242". The service manual states the minimum friction stack height as 1.173". I couldn't convince myself that .002" would cause the dragging which is why it took me so friggin' long to revert back to the OEM pack. But, apparently it did. I should have measured the stack height of the steels for comparison sake. Maybe the Barnett ones are thicker, who knows. I'll measure them next time I have it apart. I'm just glad it now works so well. I am very happy and thanks to Kruzien for the help. |

Based on information from this forum I used AMSOIL Dominator 15W-50 Full Synthetic oil knowing full well that it contains friction modifiers and is not certified by the JASO MA for use with wet clutches. I assumed the testimonials were reliable and derived from experience. After about 1K miles the clutch began to slip under heavy acceleration. I dumped the AMSOIL and replaced it with Rotella T5. It improved but still slipped. I disassembled the clutch, cleaned the friction plates with aerosol brake cleaner, dumped the Rotella T5 and refilled it with fresh Rotella T5. The slipping is now totally gone. YAY! This time hopefully for good. (Message edited by pwillikers on April 25, 2016) |
