I'm in urgent need of an SGS Thompson L4922 power supply chip that converts 12V DC to 5V DC. This chip is resident in a friends race car. There are four suppliers of this chip in the UK. Non have it in stock nor can they get one here faster than the powers of BadWeB. There are 10 suppliers in Germany and my friend is told the German's have non either. The L4922 chip will costs cents. If someone can send a chip to me at the below address very quickly, this race car needs to be on the track, I will send you a little something in return. If someone can, please say so here. Saab Workshop, Elm Terrace, Queens Road, Hull, East York's, HU5 2TQ, U.K Many thanks BadWeBers, Rocket |

Last week I had a quid at 150/1 on Smarty winning the Grand National at Epsom. I don't think he's made it home yet. You guys are faster! Smitty you done good and thanks. Shall we let Ferris go for it seeing as he's come up with a list of suppliers? Thanks man. Ferris, go for it. The Fedex thing is most generous of you. If you're in luck, please send it. So kind. Thanks Smitty. Thanks Ferris. Rocket |

Rocket and Smitty, i called DR just after 8 a.m. their time, and they DID answer the phone, but technically don't open 'til 9 a.m. they didn't have all of their computers up yet, but the fellow did seem think think they had the part in stock, but couldn't tell me more info, such as price and/or whether we need additional part # info, until after they open. i'm expecting a call back from them here in just a bit and will post more when i know more. Smitty, any luck on your end? FB |

Oh geesh... just reread it. Is that ALL that chip needs to do? Thats about as easy as it gets. How much power / current does it need to handle? Does it have a heatsink? The Speedo sensor voltage regulators I was doing for people here do exactly that (12V to 5V). Schematics are in the knowledge vault, even board layouts. edited by reepicheep on April 08, 2004 |

Rocket, just got a call back from D.R. in Florida. they have the part in stock with an "FI" suffix, but are wholesale only and typically sell to their customers in large quantities, and as such want over $200 for the part. the fellow there (Maurice) was very helpful, and very apologetic concerning their sales policy. it's just after 7 a.m. my time. i'll give Classic Components in Torrance, CA a call here in a bit and see if they can help. |

Rocket, it's a long story i'll fill you in on later, but my new good friend Tim Beaver Mr. Tim Beaver at West Coast Engineering has the part in hand, ready to ship, and will do so at no charge, as a courtesy. yeah, i agree, that totally rocks. so here's the deal: the quickest way to get it to you is if your shop has a UPS or FedEx account #. if you do, West Coast Eng. can ship it to you direct. you pay the shipping, of course, but the part is free. OR, if you don't like this idea, West Coast will mail ME the part, again at no charge, and then i can FedEx it to you overnight, and we'll worry about the shipping cost down the road some time. if you have a UPS or Fed Ex account and like the first plan, e-mail the account # to me at fastferris@hotmail.com. Tim is expecting to hear back from me first thing tomorrow morning as to what we decide, and i will be checking this thread throughout the day and evening waiting your response. alos, make SURE about the L4922 part #, as based on my search last night it appears there are suffix variations of this part, perhaps changes in mounting style or pin configuration or such. Tim was able to tell me that this part # is a "TO 220" package with a heat sink and a five-lead pin config basically resembling a chair, if that makes any sense. standing by, FB |

F.B. Thats great, no luck so far on this end.The sales reps still havent gotten back in touch. Like you they would probably send a few at n/c but no word at this time. Holiday weekend slowing things down. Rocket if the part doesnt arrive in time maybe you can get a battery holder for 2 size D batteries and use it to power the electronic component. The wattage might be low enough for this. |

Hey guys you're really kind going out on a limb for me. Also , sorry I've not got here sooner. My step mum came over from Manchester and I took her and my kids out for pizza. Ended up playing poker with Pindy, my little girl of 10, until 11.30pm and she beat me hands down. Lovely way to end an otherwise hectic working day. The holiday long weekend ahead of us screwed everything up today including getting hold of my mate for more info on the chip. Truth is, I screwed up too. I gave Bryan the contact info for D.R Components via text message so Bryan called and thanked me and last he said he was going to call and get the chip direct from D.R . This means my friend is expecting a result after the info I gave him so I'm not expecting him to get back to me with more info about the chip. After reading your post regarding D.C, Ferris, I know Bryan will not be purchasing a bulk order so will still be in need of said chip. All I know for certain at this moment is the chip resides in an engine management system that is custom built and a one off - as is the race car it resides in. I don't have a UPS or Fedex account. I use a national courier firm LTG and my account is with them. I don't know if they operate with UPS or Fedex but I'd imagine they do. That said, without asking LTG if they do, that route might be a little involved and time consuming given the Easter break. Ferris, my Hotmail account just went tits up but I'll try again later. Meanwhile can you please get the chip from Tim Beaver, thank him very much, and you send it direct to me at my Saab Workshop address. Thanks for your efforts and time spent Ferris. It will be a pleasure putting a smile on your face in return. Thanks kindly. A big thanks to you guys, Smitty and Bill. Your help was and is greatly appreciated too. Thanks fellas. Rocket |

Rocket, i'll call Tim at West Coast Engineering first thing tomorrow. the chip will have to come to me first, and then i'll ASAP it to you. our new friend Mr. Beaver went above and beyond the call for us this morning -- they have a $100.00 minumum order, but also had 50 of the little chip bastards in stock, so...i basically stepped up and asked him if he'd trade one of the chips for some kind words and a hyperlink or two on BADWEB, and as the details and global nature of what i was asking became clearer he really became enthusiastic and eager to help. if this all comes off as planned i'm hoping that you'll take the time to drop him a line and express your gratitude -- this project got a LOT more fun when Tim signed on! anyway, i'll post a progress report first thing in the morning. FB ps to Smitty and Bill: what Rocket said. |

Ferris, that's great news. Let me know Tim's phone number and I'll call him personally and award him Rocket's Cross <grin> Thanks Ferris. Thanks loads. Bryan will be well chuffed especially when he finds out about that minimum order stuff. I'm thinking this couldn't have been done without you guys and the power of BadWeB. Rocket |

Rocket, just got off the phone with Tim, he's mailing out the chip to me today. as soon as i get it it'll be on it's way to you. this is cool -- while i had Tim on the phone he punched up BADWEB and scanned this thread for the first time, and got a chuckle out of his photo and "Fan Club" link above. i've got his t-shirt size and will be mailing him out a Buell t-shirt today to thank him for his enthusiasm and support. i'll post on this thread when the chip reaches me (fingers crossed, maybe Monday?), and we'll go from there. hey Rocket, the chip showed up in this afternoon's mail... ...in this handy-dandy carrying case.. ...all nestled snugly and safely in a foam sandwich... ...and this is what it looks like up close and personal. i don't know anything about gizmos like this, so i've kept my greasy little fingers off of it. it leaves here tomorrow via FedEx overnight pointed your direction. many, many thanks again to Mr. Tim Beaver from West Coast Engineering for all his help. Ferris, I went to Hotmail before coming here so you should have mail!! Thanks for all your efforts, that looks the biz. I'll ring Tim once the part is in my hand. One more thing. No need to rush it on an overnight. My friend has bought a little time but thanks anyway. Bart, Bryan is a wizard with this stuff. I'll be sure to wind him up with your tip LOL Many many thanks once again Ferris and friends. Rocket |
