Hello all, I just picked up a 2010 Buell XB9SX and the check engine light came on three weeks after I got it from the previous (1st) owner. I ran the diagnostic mode by jumping pins 1 & 2 on the diagnostic plug. The codes that came back were 18 and 57. Has anyone else had either of these codes? If so what was the issue and how did you fix it? Thanks in Advance, |

Thanks I read that post. Problem is that it only mentions one of the codes 57 but not the other 18. Also he never finds the root cause or solution in the post. |

Sorry, don't know what to say. My '08 electrical diagnostic manual does not list a fault code of 18 or 57. Are you sure those codes are correct? Dave |

Not saying this is the be all, end all, but it's something: DTC list If that doesn't help, the 2010 (XB) setup was quite unique, so might there be 2010 only XB DTC's? 1313 |

57 is unique to 2010 bikes due to the different fuel pump on them. All XBs up to 2009 had a "dumb" fuel pump, the 2010s have a more ECM controlled fuel pump like the 1125s have. |

In my ignorance, I thought the fuel pump just turned on and stayed on. Is something more sophisticated needed? |

Thanks, Froggy, for the follow-up info. I wondered when I posted if the '10s might have a different fault code schedule. |

Thanks all, neither 18 or 57 are listed in any of the Buell manuals (2010 owners, 2010 repair, 2008 electrical) that I could get my hands on. The only references to the codes that I could find were from the directions for the idspd diagnostic tool (http://idspd.com/200124_a.pdf) manual. Update: I was hopping it was just bad gas so I drained the tank and put in real gas with 91 octane and seafoam. Shook the tank to mix and the rode and rode. The light went off and stayed off initially but is now on consistently after about a mile until I turn her off. I hear the fuel pump make noise when I flip the on switch so I know it is working. Also, the bike runs well no surging, dying, or running rough. Next I'm going to start replacing things first the fuel pressure sensor then 02 sensors, then fuel pump until the codes stop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
