Actually, it was "hanging" underneath the seat, under the fender area... |

Hanging under the seat near the fender area is most likely the flasher relay for the turn signals. What are the colors of the wires to the relay? Dave |

The bike is actually a few hours from me, was visiting my son who rides the bike, but it's under the whole seat area, not directly under the seat, right above the tire, plastic was completely broken apart, just the relay still connected to the wires, don't even know if that will fix the problem, fuel pump came on when I first checked it, but nothing after I tried a few more times..hope that helps, try to get a picture of today... |

A favorite place to start here is the fusebox. It looks like it's very nicely protected from the elements under the seat but the back is exposed. Those contacts corrode in time. I suggest removing each fuse one at a time, cleaning adding WD40 and reseating them. I have had to do this to my bike at least three times since it was new. Also, the two black relays in the fuse panel are the same as each other. You can swap them and see if it changes matters. I'll snap some pics in a bit so you know what direction the diodes are supposed to be pointed. |

Being a bit more precise as to what/where/side of bike etc would help. If on the left side of the bike, and bike not starting, the Bank Angle Sensor? |

Here are the pics I took....
Looks like your mystery connector is just the signal flasher. Since you covered all the simple stuff, more stuff to try: Pull the clutch lever and see if it tries. Is the Neutral light lit? Has the hateful kickstand switch been jumpered yet? |

Ah, thank you for the pictures. I'm with Nate on it being the turn signal flasher plug-in. And good suggestions from him about other things to try. Dave |

Does your X1 have a kick stand switch? I know the one on my S3 acts up sometimes. |

My turn. Mine wouldn't start when it was time to go home. I thought it was a weak battery but it wasn't charging. Barely made it home after it was jumped. Battery measured 11V when I pulled into the Garage. .5 more mile and I would have been walking! Oh well. Charging system lasted 89,000 without a single problem so I can't bitch. |

The ECM (computer) requires a fully charged battery or it won't work correctly. Always keep the battery plugged into a charger, especially if you don't ride it much. |

Ok, so my son took the starter switch apart, said some corrosion, tried to clean, but nothing, didn't really have much to work worth since he's a few hours from me, so we've tried all the advice given, we'll continue to work on it, one thing I haven't done is take the tank off and see what's going on there... |

Well, my son and I agreed to have one of the local dealers look at it since I'm too far from him. Any way, we took it to Indian motorcycles of Albuquerque, they said it was a fuse, something to do with the clutch, not sure, but it's running and they didn't charge him an arm and a leg, so he's back to riding tomorrow. I'm extremely happy and want to say thanks too all that responded to my thread... |

A more accurate description of the no start situation would have helped. Clutch safety switch and side stand safety switch are the first places to check in a no start with no click at all condition. No start with turn over is a whole different line of troubleshooting. |

Very true, but I suppose if 90% of users of this site knew everything, we wouldn't be asking for help... |

Now that your son has the bike back it might be a good idea to disable the safety switches - you just solder the wires together and cover with shrink wrap. |

Side stand switch maybe but I wouldn't bypass the clutch safety switch. You don't want the bike to start if you accidentally press the starter button with the bike in gear and on the side stand, especially if you are standing next to it. |

I've had a few close calls where it wanted to move on the stand. Mine doesn't idle fast enough to allow for hands-off starting when cold anyways. I've also had instances where morons felt compelled to put my bike in gear while it is parked in public. Mostly my old Sporty. This has made me pretty damn paranoid |
