Can someone post a picture of the location of the speed sensor? |

It's located on top of the transmission between the output shaft and the rear isolator. Here's a pic from the service manual:

It's not too hard to get to from the right side of the bike. You may need to remove the plastic cover for the front sprocket to get access. Remove the one allen screw, and pull straight out- it sticks down into the transmission about 1/2". |

It helps to have small hands, and a small ratcheting allen wrench. |

I found it, cleaned the gunk of it. Where can I find the other end of the sensor where it plugs into the harness? I can see where it goes into the silver sheath tubing and then disappears. |

I'm pretty sure the wires in the silver sheath are for the starter, not the sensor. Look at pic above and you can see the plug for the speed sensor. I think you'll find the plug behind the front sprocket cover. |

Ok thank you. Took it out and was fine at first l, then starting bouncing and then fixed itself. Can someone provide me with the part no. For a 2008 speed sensor? |

For 08 should be 74402-05, unless the number's been updated. Actually, I went to Surdyke and it seems the new number is 74402-05B. |

I do not have the uly with me. I have just been to harley and purchased 74402-05B however I could have sworn there was a wire connected to it and there was not a harness that plugged into it. Is this the correct part.

I don't know about the part number but it certainly looks like the one in my bike. |

Been following some historic posts here from 2002 regarding failed speed sensors, I'm just about to replace my second one at 50kkm. Any ideas to prolong the life of these suckers? I did see some jerry-built filters etc. Cheers |

A Uly shouldn't be eating them unless something else is wrong. Maybe a bad connector, maybe a grounding issue, maybe voltage transients, who knows. I'd have to look at a schematic to see where the VR power feed comes from. |
