Sooo... I've had my blast (2000 model) for about four months or so now. When im stopped and wanting to get moving I slowly let go of the clutch handle looking for grab while giving a little rev but nearly every time the only notice of contact I get is my head snapping back as the bike lurches forward. At first I chaulked this off to being new to the bike but it seems to be getting worse to the point the clutch lever is nearly completely open then snap it grabs. When I'm moving shifting up is smooth and when I get my timing right downshifts are rather nice as well. I'm not new to riding so if someone can help me stop looking like an idiot every stop light that would be awesome. | ||

Clutch adjustment way to tight, need to check clutch adjuster bearing going, and clutch cable going. EZ | ||

OLD SCHOOL: Before you adjust the clutch make sure the primary chain is adjusted to 3/4 inch loose on the tight spot ... Lube the CLUTCH LEVER and CABLE ... The STEP LEFT OUT OF the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL on holding the RAMP,outer PN 25408-94A to the REAR when doing the ADJUSTMENT SCREW PN 11752 adjustment ... Concur with EZ. Adjust the clutch per the manual. If "on the phone" means you're not at home, then wait until you get somewhere where you can put in the time to adjust things properly-its not just a simple cable adjustment. Or wait until you can get somewhere where you can download the proper pages of the manual or, best yet, buy the repair manual. Used is fine and every year Blast is virtually identical. | ||

Ya I figured it would be a pretty involved job to do. My phone is my only means of internet at the moment so I guess I will start looking for a manual to buy. Any suggestions where to get a cheap one. | ||

Ebay or do a Badweb search of the classifieds. If you have to pay full price for new, there are some dealers that will give you a 10-20% discount. | ||

Thanks. I actually just found a version that downloaded on my phone. I definitely understand why people consider the manual confusing now. Hopefully I can get the adjustment done this weekend. Thanks to everyone for all the advice and wish me luck. I'll definitely post back to let u guys know how it went or ask for help if I have any trouble. | ||

Before I get started I want to verify that the the clutch adjustment screw as the manual indicates is in fact the primary chain tensioner and the actual clutch adjustment screw is located inside/under the clutch inspection cover... Right? | ||

No. Primary chain tension is with a bolt and locknut under the primary chain case (engine). There was an issue with the wrong picture (figure) being referenced in the repair manual. I have not been able to verify that it is an actual error in one of the manuals or just a poorly written confusing manual (Harley has a convoluted way of writing a manual). The clutch adjustment screw is under the omega shaped cover under the foot peg bracket. | ||
