Anyone know the primary and secondary resistance specs for the ignition coils? I'm digging around on a couple of CR's today if ya havent noticed. One has a miss at a constant rpm. Not noticeable on acceleration. A buddy picked up one today and we are comparing things like rear shock springs. His is blue and mine is black. My Cr is at least an inch lower then his. I'm flat footed easy on mine but his puts me on my toes. What gives? (Message edited by figorvonbuellingham on September 20, 2015) |

Don't know about the coils...I'll take a look in the Electrical manual though. I just took the '08 R for the first ride. It has a Race Tech blue spring on the back, and sits noticeably higher than my '09 CR with the stock red spring. Reportedly, the original owner weighed 285. I'm way up on tiptoes backing it off the lift table. Too high for me, and I'm 5'11 with bare feet. Edited to add that a coil problem typically is more likely to show up when accelerating than at a steady state. Have you checked for an intake leak? Re-edited to say now I understand why the last owner (5'6" tall) dropped the bike a couple of times. (Message edited by Panshovevo on September 20, 2015) |

Primary resistance is .5-1 Ohm. Secondary can't be measured because of a diode according to the service manual. Any trouble codes? |

No codes. The gasket is good on the airbox and the rubber gasket around the throttle bodies looks good, new plugs. It doesn't do it until it gets up around 170* It runs fine then once it gets there starts to miss but only at a constant rpm. So blue is race tech, red is stock cr, what is black? Mine has a black spring on it. |

Does it do it at idle? If not, approximately what rpm range does it happen? I removed the link to avoid any possible problems, but it showed a black Race Tech spring. (Message edited by Panshovevo on September 21, 2015) |

Not at idle. I think it's between like 2000 and 3800 or there abouts. What service manual do you have? I couldn't find any coil specs in mine. Ill have to have a closer look at that spring to see if it has race tech written on it. (Message edited by figorvonbuellingham on September 21, 2015) |

The little I found came from page 7.3 of the 2009 Service manual. It's the specifications page for the section. The table I took the info from is not labeled or numbered, so I made an educated guess that it contains the coil info. Following the numbering system of other tables on the page, it would be table 7-5. The page doesn't show a 7-5. Nothing else in the section that I can think of has a primary and secondary winding. Additionally, the Electrical manual in two places on the Diagnostic flow chart for coil related trouble codes, asks if the resistance is less than .5 Ohms. It's a bit confusing, in that it suggests checking the resistance on what I would consider to be the wrong side of the connector though. Based on this, and the unlabeled table with primary and secondary resistance mentioned, I made a judgement call that the table applies to the coils. I could be wrong. Same table, same info is on page 1.1, Table 1-11 of the Elecrical manual. It is identified as coil specs there. (Message edited by Panshovevo on September 21, 2015) |

Cool thanks, ill have another gander at it. I'm missing a tab on the airbox at the left rear corner. Surely that wouldn't make this thing miss at a constant rpm? |

I can't imagine that it would. When I suggested an intake leak, I was thinking of below the throttle plates, not above. Have you tried a TPS reset to see if it made any differences? |
