Does anyone have an idea what the going cost is for a new HD ECM for a 2009 XB12XT? Just a ball park number is fine. Thanks in advance. |

The EBR replacement ECM is $300; i'd think the HD part is similar. |

$300 seems to be the going, unless you get a used one off ebay. |

I was quoted $345 for a new one from a local HD dealer. Seemed kinda steep to me but if that's the going rate, then that's the going rate. |

Order it from Kutter HD on line and save 20% I think you may have to go to a dealer to have it flashed though..... |

You can get the EBR/IDS ECM setup for the stock muffler, but it has better fueling. Since it's cheaper than the HD part, it seems like the way to go. |

I got a race ECM from IDS. I am quite pleased with the results. I vote for them. |

I considering selling the bike in the near future so want to keep it as bone stock as possible. Really don't want to sell it but I don't ride it the way it needs to be ridden. My riding style is more cruiser/touring than adventure bike. Seldom get about 4500rmp. I still love this bike but I'm not a young man any more. Just turned 61. Anyone interested in a gently used 09 XT. 23000 miles, give or take... |

but the bike will run better with the EBR unit.. what's wrong with your stock piece? Be aware the resale price of Buells has really tanked.. I've offered my 09XT for a reasonable $4900 (with a warranty from HD) and get no interest. I still get totally pumped when I ride it but those occasions have become less this summer, I'm 61 too and have to spend most weekends helping out my parents and always want to bring the dog (they live on a lake).. she can't ride the Uly..

Rwven is right, at least to my experience. If you order the part number at the parts counter, the blank brain will arrive at the dealership (unless you order it direct to your house) and then you'll have to find someone to flash it if you don't do that sort of thing. Not every parts counter person knows to ask about whether you will need programming. If the dealership gets it but they lack the ability to program it, you're back on the open market looking for someone to do this work unless someone here can help you. I got lucky and one of the techs at Seminole H-D in Sanford (FL) had a good, clean, properly sorted and tweaked 'image' when I had my ECM replaced under the EPA warranty back several years ago. According to the statement he made, not every dealership who can order the part number has the capacity to do something with it. (I will say that the bike has run much better since he touched it.) This alone may help you decide on something along the lines of the EBR/IDS. |

I had a local HD Dealer flash and install it. Recently had to replace the O2 sensor and have to wonder if the failed O2 sensor took the ECM south with it. |

Zane Posted on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 - have to wonder if the failed O2 sensor took the ECM south with it. A failing or failed O2 sensor, far as I know, cannot cause an ECM failure. A short to system voltage, or higher, on the O2 sensor wire might cause an ECM failure. But I've never heard of such failure... Teeps, I never knew how an O2 sensor worked but that article was a clear explanation. Thanks for posting the link. |

You can get used ECM on ebay for less than 1/2 above prices. Should be about $125 give or take. I just went that route for my '06 to have one for playing aroudn with. Can't recall what years XB12 work for your '09, but guessing it will have to be '08 or later. |

I closed my eyes, opened my wallet and just let the dealership put a new stock one it. They flashed it for me and now all I have to do is ride. Besides, I want to keep the bike as close to stock as possible. Other than a HID headlight, right side comfort kit and a few minor bits, it's bone stock. Sure is nice to have it running right again... |

Yeah. I'll never use Goe HD again, that's for sure. Their "Buell Tech" clearly had never seen a Buell before. When we get together for a ride, I'll tell you the whole story. |

Zane, I haven't been in that place since 2003. We'll have some tales to share when we get together. That's some of that bring a bottle, open and throw the cap away kind of stories. I couldn't believe ___ kawasaki was listed as a ebr dealer either. No kind of promotion of the brand that I saw. Total waste of energy there. |

Went for about 175 mile ride yesterday to test out the bike. It still isn't 100%. When it's cold it idles rough and stalled on me. Once it heated up, it was better but still didn't idle right. I'm calling Goe HD today and letting Joe the service manager know it's still not right. They aren't getting another chance at it though. They'll never touch it again. |

Zane, I had to get a new ECM for my '07 this year. I had it done at a local HD shop, and they didn't get it right the first time around. It wouldn't idle when cold and when warmed up the idle was WAY high. They did get it right the second time I took it in. I think it was mainly the TPS reset, that they didn't get right the first time. I'm not equipped to interface the ECM (laptop, software, cable), so couldn't do it myself. On your '09, you should be able to do TPS reset without any special cables/software. I, also, hate taking my bike to a service center, so understand your grief. As far as cost, I got hit hard. $375 for ECM + $215 shop labor and diagnosis -- OUCH, but it's good to have it running right again. |

Yeah. That's not far from what it cost for Goe HD to do the work. Nice people but don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. Once it was at operating temp, my tack was rock steady at 1000 rpm. Now it sorta bounces just enough to be noticeable. When cold, it will stall. Guess a TPS reset is a good idea. Sure won't hurt anything. Edited because I can't spell. Check your bike for air leaks, zane. Did you see the work done when ecm was replaced? Tps reset done correctly? And , did they mount the thing back as original where seat could rub it. Did old ecm show signs of rubbing? Lot of questions but all pertinent to the issue |
