on my x1 lightning, when I'm cruising around 65+ mph, it will randomly "jump out of 5th gear", but I can just chopped the throttle and it starts pulling like normal. Any ideas? |

If you're lucky, the shifter pawl under the clutch is out of alignment. If you are less lucky, the dogs on your gears are chipped and the gears need to be replaced. It might be cheaper to get a Sportster transmission and slip it in than to disassemble and repair your transmission. The clutch basket and primary drive gear come off (Left hand thread on the clutch basket nut) and then there is a trap door which will take a very small crowbar to break loose. The final belt drive sprocket has to come off, and then the entire transmission will slip out as a unit. |

that's what I figured it was. seems way cheaper and easier to just replace the entire trans |

Comes from jamming into high gear without the clutch. Can be done without damage, but you have to master the art of just how many RPM to drop while shifting. Once the shift dogs are no longer square, the gear is shot. |
